Job description

Glass Door Homeless Charity is London’s largest open-access winter night shelter. This award-winning, independent charity provides shelter and support for those with nowhere else to turn.

Due to COVID-19, Glass Door is launching a fixed location hostel for those experiencing homelessness. Our Hostel Project Workers will be integral in the running of this life-saving service.

Hostels are staffed 24 hours a days; shifts available are:

            -morning - 7:30am to 3:30pm

            -evening – 3:00pm to 10pm

            -overnight – 10pm to 8am (£0.59/hr premium)

Waking shifts that run from either 9.45pm until 8.am or day or evening shifts.  Working as part of a two-person team, you will be responsible for ensuring the security and safety of all guests in the hostel through the night, and that all project activities meet health and safety requirements.  You must remain awake and alert throughout the night and respond appropriately to any situations or emergencies that may occur.

The shelters house around 45 people each day.  You will be expected to take part in regular checks throughout the day/night.  The two staff are also responsible for preparing and delivering meals to our guests and ensuring that everyone has access to a safe environment including following government guidance.

We are looking for confident and empathetic people to join our team.  Come and be part of something special and help us to relieve poverty amongst street homeless people in London.
