Job description

Global Partners Digital (GPD) is a digital human rights organisation. We work with a number of stakeholders, including civil society, governments and private companies, across multiple projects, and are seeking a highly motivated and organised Project Officer to join our team and contribute to this work.

Roles and Responsibilities 

The successful candidate will be a focused and hardworking individual who will join GPD’s project management team, providing project and operational support to GPD’s digital rights projects and teams. The role will support, and report directly to, the Senior Project Manager and will also involve working closely with GPD’s Core Function. You will work across a range of complex and high-value projects in the digital rights field. You will be expected to demonstrate initiative, integrity and strong organisational and prioritisation skills, as well as the ability to collaborate well with colleagues and partners globally. 

The position is initially fixed-term but has the prospect of becoming permanent. 

Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Working with the project management team to provide high quality project management services across GPD’s digital rights projects at all stages of the project cycle – including project set-up, implementation, financial management, and monitoring and reporting – ensuring excellence and consistency in the way that GPD’s projects are managed and delivered;

  • Supporting the Senior Project Manager to maintain and scale GPD’s project management tools, systems and processes in line with GPD’s project needs and growth;

  • Coordinating project teams and ensuring timely task management and inputs;

  • Meticulous maintenance of project data, files and documentation;

  • Conducting project monitoring and evaluation (M&E) activities and updating project data tables against indicators;

  • Supporting grant and sub-grant management processes;

  • Assisting with funder reporting (narrative and financial), ensuring that it is both timely and accurate;

  • Assisting with project financial management, including budget building, forecasting, oversight of partner finances, invoicing; expenditure tracking and financial reporting;

  • Developing and maintaining relationships with GPD’s trusted partners and networks;

  • Providing operational and administrative support to the GPD’s core function and other functions where required;

  • Ensuring compliance with funder contractual obligations and requirements;

  • Providing logistical support for events and meetings in the UK and overseas to team members and project partners;

  • Providing logistical support for GPD and partner travel;

  • Ad hoc administrative support to projects and teams as required, including taking minutes in meetings and conferences.

Essential Skills and Experience 

  • A minimum of three years’ practical experience working in a project management role including experience in project set-up, implementation, financial management and monitoring and reporting;

  • Experience of managing or familiarity with government funder compliance requirements (including FCDO, USAID, US DRL);

  • Practical experience managing project finances;

  • Demonstrable ability in administration, financial management, award compliance and sub-award management, and tracking activity performance and costs;

  • A-level qualifications or equivalent;

  • Excellent written and spoken English;

  • Strong digital literacy, including ability to work on Google Workspace and Slack;

  • An interest in international affairs, human rights and internet-related and digital issues;  

  • Self-motivated and organised, able to work independently to meet deadlines;

  • Strong coordination and communication skills;

  • Strong numerical skills and competencies in using excel or similar;

  • Able to build positive relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders;

  • A commitment to continuous learning and improvement.

Desirable Skills and Experience 

  • Experience in managing high value project portfolios (GBP 500,000+);

  • Practical experience of working with civil society, governments and the private sector, particularly from the global South;

  • Practical experience of working on human rights and internet-related and digital issues;

  • Experience working with remote teams and with partners from different cultural backgrounds;

  • Fluency in another language;

  • Experience using Xero or similar; 

  • Undergraduate degree qualification or above.

 Terms and Conditions

  • Working days:     Full time or 4 days part time 

  • Expected start date:     February 2022

  • Contract Type:       One Year Fixed Term (possibility for extension based on funding)

  • Reporting to:        Senior Project Manager

  • Salary:         £30,000 - £35,000 pro rata (dependent on experience)

  • Location:         UK based (with permission to live and work in the UK)
