Job description

This is a key and varied role in the finance department, supporting budget holders across the organisation on budget preparation and reporting on financial performance against budget, as well as leading on the accounting for Glyndebourne Enterprises Ltd. This role reports to the Finance Director and works alongside the Head of Finance.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Management accounts - Preparation of accurate and timely monthly management accounts for Directors and Heads of Department.

  • Budgets and forecasts - Supporting the Finance Director and Heads of Departments with budget preparation, regular reforecasts, and development of the budget and forecast processes.

  • Financial analysis - Preparation of financial analyses as required, including annual return on investments in productions.

  • Glyndebourne Enterprises Ltd (GEL) - To lead on the financial accounting and record-keeping for GEL, coordinating with the Head of Finance on finance processes and with support from one of the Finance Assistants. To build and maintain relationships with non-finance teams and colleagues in the areas of Retail/shop, Art, and Production sale/hire to ensure timely and accurate financial records with regular reconciliations to non-finance systems.

  • Finance business partnering - In addition to working closely with the Retail, Art and Production sale/hire teams as part of the lead finance role for GEL, to build and maintain the same relationships with the Learning & Engagement department to review project finances. 

  • Membership and Development (M&D) - To maintain financial records relating to M&D, including the New Generation Programme (NGP). This includes monthly income reconciliations between the finance system and the M&D database, and bank reconciliations for the dedicated M&D and NGP bank accounts. Alongside the Head of Finance, to be one of two department members with responsibility for processing regular direct debit instructions to collect memberships and donations.

  • Year end and audit - To prepare the annual statutory accounts and supporting financial analyses for GEL and to lead on provision of information to the auditors of GEL. To lead on key year end analysis and calculations for the wider group, including the annual management recharge from Glyndebourne Productions to GEL, theatre tax relief claims, and NGP grants. 

  • Environmental reporting - Collating monthly meter readings from the Building Services team and providing information on the Wind Turbine to relevant providers to facilitate timely receipt of government subsidies. Tracking information on waste management and recycling, to feed into carbon footprint reporting for Arts Council and Companies House.

  • Statutory reporting - Assisting with preparation of information for statutory returns as required for Arts Council England, Companies House, Office for National Statistics and other bodies.

  • Team cover - To ensure that appropriate members of the team are suitably briefed and trained to undertake the above responsibilities in the absence of the Management Accountant. To undertake cover for colleagues in the team.

  • Other - Other work as required, including ad-hoc project work as agreed with the Finance Director (development of phased forecasts as a current example)

Knowledge, skills and Experience


  • Demonstrable experience of working within a finance environment and of building and maintaining relationships with non-finance stakeholders

  • Suitable qualification - professional accountancy qualification (full or part) ACA/ACCA/CIMA or qualified by experience

  • SQL/Crystal report writing skills 

  • Good working knowledge of desktop applications, including advanced Excel

  • Ability to work extremely accurately with strong analytical skills

  • Personable and team player but also self-motivated 



  • Familiarity with PS Financials and Tessitura

  • Previous experience in a charity or arts environment 

  • Interest in the Arts

Salary Information

We are offering a salary of £35000 - £38000, depending on experience. 

The contractual hours of work are 35 per week.
