Inter Mediate

Inter Mediate (IM) is a unique and discreet London-based peacemaking organisation established in 2011 to support behind-the-scenes peace negotiations in some of the world’s most challenging conflicts. This role offers an exciting opportunity to join the senior management team of a small high-impact organisation working at the leading edge of international peacemaking.

Reporting to the Deputy CEO and working closely with the CEO and the Financial Director, the Operations Director will lead Inter Mediate’s institutional, Human Resources and project-support systems to keep the organisation running smoothly and ensure we are equipped to deliver the best results.

A successful candidate will be a motivated self-starter with senior management experience in operations, preferably for a non-profit organisation. You will be familiar with the fast and sometimes unpredictable pace of an international operating environment, and confident in handling challenges as they arise. You will be comfortable working collaboratively within a small team and engaging credibly with a wide range of people from senior government officials to project interlocutors in the field.

Key Responsibilities

A) Governance and Institutional Compliance (with the Deputy CEO and senior management)

• Lead the development and implementation of IM’s operational planning, in coordination with the CEO, Deputy CEO, Finance Director, staff, Trustees and supporters.
• Ensure that Inter Mediate complies with its charitable and legal obligations.
• Prepare, attend and minute Trustee and Committee meetings.
• Develop and implement quality improvement process for institutional policies and project delivery to keep Inter Mediate ethical, efficient and delivering value for money.
• Source, manage and review all professional services and suppliers engaged by Inter Mediate including banking, legal advice, accounting and auditing.

B) Human Resources and Office Operations

• Oversee Inter Mediate’s recruitment process and work with the Deputy CEO to ensure that we have fair procedures for benefits, training, probation, diversity and inclusion, gender pay gap, safeguarding, grievance and disciplinary matters.
• Oversee the contracting and on-boarding for new staff, consultants and trustees.
• Manage day-to-day HR functions and queries, including leave recording systems.
• Conduct staff remuneration and salary benchmarking exercises with the Deputy CEO.
• Update and maintain the employment handbook policies and procedures.
• Oversee office operations, equipment and facilities management.

C) IT, Security and Risk Management

• Ensure that the IT and communications systems are optimally configured for effectiveness and security, and that staff can operate them as necessary.
• Ensure Inter Mediate has robust risk mitigation systems and training for staff.
• Ensure Risk Assessments and security plans are completed by staff prior to staff travel.
• Ensure Inter Mediate has a viable business continuity plan.
• Maintain and review the Risk Register for the organisation with the Deputy CEO.

D) Financial Management (with the Finance Director)

• Work closely with the Finance Director to ensure that operational and financial planning processes and decisions are mutually informed and fully aligned.
• Strategise with the Finance Director and Deputy CEO to ensure all wings of the organisation work together to advance the best interest of the institution, its staff, projects and donors.

Experience, qualifications and skills:

• At least 8 years experience leading charity operations at a senior level spanning institutional compliance, Human Resources, IT, security and project support services, ideally in the non-profit sector.
• Track record of excellent business decisions for institutions under UK charity law operating in an international, multi-donor environment.
• Extensive experience of supporting Boards and Board committees at a senior level in a non-profit context.
• Some knowledge of project support mechanisms required for smooth delivery of peacebuilding, humanitarian, human rights or political projects in high-risk environments.

• Evidence of ability to both lead and service a complex network of external relationships.

• Graduate with a relevant degree and, preferably with relevant post graduate qualifications or relevant experience.

Working at Inter Mediate

A normal working week consists of 35 hours (or pro rata for part-time). Our office operates between 8am and 6.30pm with core hours from 9.00am to 5.00pm. Inter Mediate operates a hybrid working model, with at least 2 set days per week in the office in London.

Working with the director, Grants Committee and trustees, the grants manager will ensure he/ she delivers the best possible support and guidance consistently. This will involve developing and perfecting sound grant-making processes, assisting staff with applications, selection, awarding, distribution and monitoring and evaluating outcomes. This person will also lead on maintaining accurate data and supporting the team with progress reporting and stakeholder management. This is a relationship and process-based role which reaches right across all the NHS trust’s services.

This role will also assist the development of communication materials, including the identification of grantees to spotlight through storytelling and sharing content that can be used to promote the impact of the charity’s work through social media and other channels.

To maintain good practice standards, provide timely information and advice to local churches, and operate a robust casework service.  To sustain and further develop a comprehensive safeguarding training programme that delivers nationally approved training effectively and with impact. 

We are seeking to appoint two experienced Safeguarding Officers on a permanent contract; altogether 1.3 full-time equivalent between the two posts, with hours being negotiable with successful candidates.The post holders will have a relevant professional qualification and be able to demonstrate a proven track record of direct safeguarding practice with vulnerable adults or children or both. The successful applicants will be expected to provide effective leadership across the District to promote a culture of safeguarding, whilst supporting survivors of abuse.Working with partners from the Church’s Learning Network, the post holders will be expected to contribute to the planning and delivery of the District’s safeguarding training programme.

The post holders will be expected to be in sympathy with the aims of the Methodist Church.

Location: Home-based, own transport is essential as travel will be required region-wide.We need one member of staff to cover Cumbria and North Lancashire.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, between 09:00 and 17:00. Also to include some evenings and occasional weekends.

Salary: £40,000 to £42,000 pro rata, dependent on experience.

Transition Together is seeking to continue the work of deepening connection and growing the voice of the Transition Movement in England and Wales through the freelance engagement of three Network Weavers. This exciting project will see this team, supported by Transition Together staff, co-design an in person Transition Assembly early next year to guide the future of our Movement in the UK as well as build relationships with Transitioners across Wales and England and connect to emerging and established networks across the UK. Bladder Health UK (BHUK) is a small national charity that has developed significantly over the last 10 years. We are now looking for a part-time charity manager who can continue this journey. Role and Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Director of Finance and working closely with the Senior Programme Finance Officer, the primary objective of the role is to manage the monthly and annual accounts, prepare for and lead the end-to-end statutory audit and support the wider organisation with financial insight and guidance.

• Monthly accounts: maintain financial records and produce monthly management reports. Prepare financial reports for quarterly board meetings.
• Annual accounts: prepare the annual financial accounts, including the Trustees’ Annual Report.
• Lead the audit process: manage the audit process and be the key contact for the auditor during the audit fieldwork and follow up.
• Organisational budget: support the Director of Finance with development of the annual organisational budget. Liaise with budget holders across the organisation (fundraising, programmes, communications, office management and CEO) on a regular basis to manage spend against the annual organisational budget.
• Support the wider team with financial information and insights: provide financial information or conduct analysis to support the activities of the wider organisation, including due diligence information required for proposals for funding opportunities.
• Provide guidance to our network partners’ finance teams: for example, reviewing our overseas network partners’ annual accounts and finance policies. Liaise with the Treasurer of Friends of Hand in Hand in New York to manage donations from the US.
• Compliance: support the Director of Finance with the reviewing and updating organisational policies, including risk, governance and the Finance Manual. Ensure that regulatory requirements for staff training are met, such as anti-bribery, cyber security and data protection.
• Manage invoices and purchase orders: manage the invoices tracker and purchase orders system to ensure that the appropriate approvals are obtained, and suppliers are paid on time. Support with payments and monitor bank income for the fundraising team.
• Manage trademarks: work with the CEO to maintain global trademarks for the Hand in Hand network.
• Gift aid: ensure that gift aid is claimed on all eligible donations in a timely manner.
• Staff timesheets: monitor monthly staff timesheets for projects that require them. Manage analysis of staff time across projects and provide actual spend for project reports. In time, we would like to implement a more sophisticated timesheet system and the Financial Accountant could take the lead on this project.

The ISM is now looking for an Assistant to the SLT who will carry out a broad range of duties, from working with the CEO on external affairs and diary management through to being involved in all aspects of Board meetings and looking after the ISM’s offices. An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Primary Care team which supports committee effectiveness and ensures representation within Local Medical Committees within London. The post holder will report to the Director of Primary Care, working across local committees within the Primary Care team.

The focus of this role is to provide administrative support to Local Medical Committees, enabling the smooth running of Committee meetings. It would be helpful if candidates have a contextual understanding of the health environment or other public sector environments that we work in, along with excellent administration and note-taking skills. • A degree in a relevant subject with experience working in the field of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs)
• Extensive knowledge of global health issues and an up-to-date familiarity with issues and practice in the international development sector
• Substantive experience in designing and leading research projects and of communicating research results to different audiences 
• An ability to analyse quantitative and qualitative data using a range of different approaches and software and to present this information so that it may be easily interpreted by different users and audiences
• Relevant, publication track record in peer reviewed journals/books, including as a lead author
