This is a newly created role and there is a great deal of untapped potential here for a proactive leader to support the CEO and SLT to create efficiencies in how we manage our internal infrastructure (IT Systems and processes), Finance and charity Governance, and HR/people to ensure we maintain and develop a thriving and nurturing working environment. The individual will have significant involvement in the strategic vision of the organisation as a whole. With a broad portfolio, the role combines both operational and strategic elements and must be able to flex up and down accordingly. 

The Waterways Ombudsman Scheme is in place to ensure the independent handling of complaints made against the Canal & River Trust and other navigation authorities. The Waterways Ombudsman is appointed by the Waterways Ombudsman Committee who oversee the working of the Scheme and the remuneration of the Ombudsman on an independent basis. The Waterways Ombudsman is a certified Alternative Dispute Resolution entity and a full voting member of the Ombudsman Association.

The Waterways Ombudsman Committee is recruiting for a new Waterways Ombudsman.  We are aiming for a July 2024 start date.

Waterways Ombudsman

Working part-time and in a location of your choosing, you will take responsibility for all aspects of the ombudsman scheme. This includes handling complaints from initial enquiry through to resolution, as well as managing relationships with, the Committee, and the Canal & River Trust and other navigation authorities, waterway organisations and the media. You will also be responsible for administrative elements of the scheme, such as managing the website and preparing the annual report. The job involves working flexibly around four to five days over a month at a rate of £600 per day, which is paid through the independent Waterways Ombudsman Committee.

We’re looking for someone with a solid understanding of how public or private sector ombudsman schemes work. If you haven’t gained direct experience within one already, then you will certainly have worked at a senior level within a legal environment, dispute resolution system or similar. Sound judgment and integrity are important, as are strong analytical, problem-solving and negotiating skills. You must also be able to work alone and in a highly autonomous way.

We are medical experts applying our skills and knowledge to make a difference in the world. We bring together the global community of medical imaging professionals to make the case for diagnostic imaging.

Since 2017, Worldwide Radiology has been steadily growing from a small group of founding UK radiologists with experience of working in limited resource settings to an international team of around 50 long-term volunteers from a range of different imaging and clinical backgrounds.

We support the development of appropriate, high quality imaging services in low and middle income countries; from central teaching hospitals to remote district clinics. We work together with our partners to build the necessary skills and capacity to improve patient care and we aim to increase opportunities for imaging research focused on local or national healthcare priorities.

Overview

The Programme Manager role will be crucial to the success and development of the charity. You will be responsible for the management and delivery of 3+ Worldwide Radiology projects, operating across Malawi, Ghana and The Gambia.

The Programme Manager will be responsible for quickly grasping the needs of three ongoing projects, steering them toward desired impact, ensuring compliance with donor requirements, and managing risks effectively to bring these projects into shape.

​

The successful candidate will be responsible for working with key stakeholders, including our volunteers, partners and donors to build and nurture strong working relationships. 

​

They will contribute to seeking out further grant opportunities within the sector, working closely with the rest of the programmes team and the fundraising team.

​

The key responsibilities of this post are as follows:

​

(a) oversee the smooth running of our projects; 

(b) provide strong, holistic solutions, focused on operational leadership; and 

(c) support the overall growth and development of the organisation.
 

Role-Specific Responsibilities

1. Provide overall day-to-day management for WWR projects and WWR volunteers, reporting directly to the WWR Director.

2. Oversee the development and operational execution of detailed work-plans and budgets for WWR programme

3. Track all milestones and reporting schedules, taking timely action to ensure they are met.

4. Develop and deliver project MEAL activities in collaboration with our external MEAL consultant.

5. Produce (gather, collate and edit)  high quality, timely project progress, annual and donor-specific reports.

6. Oversee the management of partnership agreements and contracts in accordance with the donor specific requirements.

7. Support the identification and securing of new grant opportunities in collaboration with the programmes and fundraising teams.

8. Communicate administrative and technical information to WWR project partners in a timely, sensitive and effective manner.

9. Assist team members, volunteers, partners and members of the public with queries, demonstrating tact and understanding when dealing with complex and serious issues, deliver a consistently high and appropriate level of service and support to individuals contacting WWR.

10. Assist with recruitment, onboarding, induction and management of both UK and international WWR volunteers.
     

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

• Educated to degree level or equivalent work experience.

• Experience in grant or contract management in a humanitarian or development environment.

• Demonstrable experience of adhering to principles, methods, techniques and tools for the effective management and administration of programmes and project lifecycles.

• Demonstrable experience of applying monitoring systems and managing budgets.

• Experience of communicating with a wide range of stakeholders.

Desirable

• Experience working in the nonprofit sector.

• An understanding of global health.

• Experience of working across international partnerships.

• Experience in developing and maintaining effective relationships with international funders, analyse their funding requirements, and work with consortium partners.

• Experience of managing a range of programmes at a middle/senior management level.

This is an exciting role with an opportunity to lead the charity into the 150th Year of delivery and with a new strategy to address need. About the role

We are inviting applications for the role of Surveyor and Property Manager. About You

As you would expect, the Surveyor and Property Manager postholder will need to hold a professional chartered surveyor qualification (RICS) and have experience of leading and managing a property portfolio across a commercial environment with a diverse range of buildings. • Robust knowledge of legislative requirements in relation to building management.
• Experience in negotiating property contracts, undertaking and preparing reports on valuation of property
• A confident and persuasive negotiator to manage difficult conversations with Clubs and Tenants
• Leadership ability to manage a small team at Atlas House (HQ)
• Able to attend the office in Leicester at least one day per week (Wednesdays preferred)
• Prepared to travel to properties as required (you can plan your own schedule!)

Turquoise Mountain is a British charity that was founded in 2006. We believe artisanal heritage matters and has the power to transform lives. We support artisans to thrive and to revitalise traditions in regions of the world where artisanal heritage is endangered, and to connect people through heritage.

Turquoise Mountain is a fast-growing organisation with offices in Afghanistan, Myanmar, Saudi Arabia, and the Levant, and with over 400 international and local staff members worldwide. We combine a cultural heritage focus with a wide scope of activities; we support artisans to thrive and to revitalize their traditions by any means necessary, and to connect people across the world through heritage. The places where we work are complex and sometimes affected by conflict.

Sound financial records and prudent management of our finances is core to everything we undertake. We have a small central Finance team that closely works with in-country Finance Teams. Because we, as part of our charitable mission, promote the sale of artisan goods to international markets, Turquoise Mountain has a trading subsidiary and also engages independent trading entities in the countries in which it is active. This means our Finance focus covers both charity and commercial, across different jurisdictions, and with culturally diverse teams. This makes the Head of Global Finance role a diverse one, that requires the ability to switch quickly, to build strong relationships, to lead and guide, whilst maintaining spotless financial records and financial compliance and providing senior management with the information and transparency it needs to make strategic decisions.
