The role of Head of HR offers a unique opportunity to harness the vibrant creativity and campaigning nature of the Greenpeace UK people operation. The Head of HR is responsible for providing clear and robust leadership to keep everything running smoothly, dealing with any conflict, as well as driving positive change at a crucial time for the organisation and the world!
Greenpeace is an international non-profit global campaigning organisation. Our independence and global reach enable us to stand for positive change through action in order to defend nature and promote peace. We investigate and expose global environmental problems, confront those in positions of power and present alternative solutions.
Supporting the Organisational Director and Senior Management Team in maintaining an effective organisational culture, you’ll be ensuring that HR policies and practices meet Greenpeace’s objectives and match its ways of working.
You’ll lead the HR Team to provide a high level of service and support, and to effectively deliver on HR projects. Coaching, supporting and guiding managers and directors across the organisation, you’ll be responsible for ensuring an effective approach to people management and employee relations.
You’ll be expected to make continuous HR improvements and deliver on strategic people initiatives, with a particular emphasis on diversity and inclusion, organisational agility, strong engagement and employee wellbeing. Building positive relationships at all levels to communicate and promote HR services, you’ll also work closely with teams managing freelance contracts, third-party workers and volunteers, to ensure a joined up approach to people issues.
Our commitment to diversity: We are committed to tackling systemic inequalities by being proactive in creating opportunities for people from under-represented groups. We particularly welcome applications from anyone who is from a BAME background along with applications from anyone who considers themselves to have a disability.
To secure this role you'll have
- Broad HR management experience within a fast-paced and flexible organisation, encompassing both legislation and a sound employee relations focus.
- The resilience and credibility to build relationships and influence in a similar environment, although not necessarily charity/third sector.
- The ability to work collaboratively and on your own initiative to analyse HR issues, apply insights and drive change
- A passion for Greenpeace’s aims - and for the key contribution that HR can make in achieving them.
You’ll get the opportunity to continue to develop both personally and professionally, taking advantage of the wide range of learning and development opportunities available to our staff. We offer great benefits such as a generous pension scheme, subsidised lunches, free yoga and a wealth of well-being resources, just to name a few. Take a look at our Work for Greenpeace pages to find out more about what it’s like to work for us and why you should apply.
We are happy to consider flexible working requests as part of the recruitment process.
