Islington, Greater London
£39,696 - £46,140 per annum (We normally offer a starting salary at the start of the range)
Permanent, Full-time
Job description

We are looking for a dynamic, creative and organised political campaigner to join the Greenpeace Politics Team. You will help us monitor and analyse political opportunities in the UK to help win campaigns. You will work with our campaign teams, network of supporters and volunteers to help them campaign for action to protect our climate, oceans and forests. You will work with politicians from all parties to champion and deliver policies and political change for a green and peaceful world.

Your day-to-day work will involve advising campaigners in the development and implementation of political strategies and lobbying for their projects. You will help to develop policy positions in key campaign areas, and advocate for agreed policies to political audiences, and in the media. And you will help with research, intel-gathering and networking to help to maximise the impact of Greenpeace’s political tactics.

The person we are looking for will have experience and knowledge of the UK political scene, and be a great communicator who works well in teams and thrives in a fast-moving environment.

Greenpeace is an international non-profit global campaigning organisation. Our independence and global reach enable us to stand for positive change through action in order to defend nature and promote peace. We investigate and expose global environmental problems, confront those in positions of power and present alternative solutions.

Please read the full job description and person specification before applying.

The role is based in our London office but may be remote initially. As we progress to a hybrid working model you may have flexibility to work from home but will need to commute into our Islington head office on a regular basis.

You will need:

  • In-depth knowledge and interest in UK politics, including experience of working with Parliamentary processes.
  • Experience of political lobbying at a national or international level, including the ability to establish and maintain effective contacts and relationships with senior and influential external individuals and bodies.
  • Experience of development and implementation of successful political strategies in association with campaign work.
  • Ability to work constructively and effectively with other team members.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with a wide range of people, both verbally and in writing - including the media, volunteers and other NGO representatives.
  • Lastly, and most importantly, you will need to demonstrate a genuine passion for Greenpeace’s mission, an understanding of how we seek to achieve change, and enthusiasm for learning about our campaigns.

We give you:
We offer a range of opportunities for you to continue to develop both personally and professionally, taking advantage of the wide range of learning and development opportunities available to our staff. We offer great benefits such as a generous pension scheme, subsidised lunches, free yoga and a wealth of well-being resources, just to name a few. Take a look at our Work for Greenpeace pages to find out more about what it’s like to work for us and why you should apply.

Our commitment to diversity: Greenpeace UK is committed to providing equal opportunities for everyone regardless of their background. We acknowledge that people from certain backgrounds are under-represented in environmental and campaigning organisations and we’re committed to doing what we can to correct this. We are particularly keen to receive applications from people of colour; people with disabilities; people who identify as being LGTBQIA; people who have a mental health condition; and people who identify as working class now or in the past.
