Job Description

Join a team that is changing places and changing lives.

Groundwork is the community charity with a green heart.  We believe that big global issues – the economy, the environment – have a big local impact.  Groundwork operates throughout the UK helping communities find practical solutions to the challenges they face.

Groundwork East is in an exciting stage of growth and change. We are a registered charity, one of 17 Groundwork Trusts throughout the United Kingdom, which enable social and environmental regeneration of local communities across the east of England. Groundwork delivers a broad range of projects across three themes: creating better places, improving people's prospects, and promoting greener living and working.

We work in partnership with residents, local authorities, the private sector, schools, other charities and local organisations to develop projects which bring about regeneration and improve the quality of life. With a turnover of £3million and 70 staff, we are in a strong position to build on our considerable achievements so far.

We are seeking an Executive Director to provide strategic leadership and management at Groundwork East to achieve the core aims of our business in line with our vision and values.

The Executive Director is responsible for the strategic development and performance of the organisation financially and legislatively while maintaining and enhancing the reputation, profile and efficacy of the Trust through relationship management, focussed operational delivery and effective  marketing and communications. Developing innovative approaches and strategic partnerships to expand the portfolio are also central to the role.

The successful candidate will have the ability to lead, manage and motivate senior teams to achieve business objectives while networking effectively with external partners and stakeholders to secure and expand projects and programmes within a variety of sectors.

Crucially, the Executive Director will have overall responsibility for maintaining and enhancing the long-term financial sustainability of the Trust.

Outstanding leadership and business skills are a pre-requisite. Experience and knowledge of the community and environmental regeneration sectors is particularly relevant as is knowledge of the broader charity sector.

We offer the opportunity to make a lasting difference and to positively impact a successful organisation with a strong community focus.

The job holder will be required to work flexibly and to travel regularly to our regional offices and to prospective business partners as required.

Details on how to apply for this role are in the Candidate Information pack.
