Job Title:              Senior Community Fundraiser

Hours:                   30 hours per week

Salary:                   £26,000 pro rata

Location:              Witney

We are looking for a Senior Community Fundraiser to join our team. You will be responsible for proactively developing fundraising support for Guideposts, through the building of strong and sustainable relationships with a wide range of community groups including local businesses.

Guideposts exists to help improve the lives of individuals who face any number of complex challenges; from learning disability and mental health problems to age-related conditions, such as dementia, and the people who care for them. Whether through active care and support, information and guidance or skills training all our services are focussed on helping people lead independent and fulfilling lives, feel valued and included in their local community.


You will recruit, develop and retain fundraising support from a variety of supporters in the area, particularly focusing on community groups, local businesses, and educational organisations.


You will also offer line management support to Community Fundraisers in Hertfordshire and Gloucestershire.


We are looking for someone who can actively support communications to raise awareness of the charity’s work and fundraising activities, developing fundraising ideas that engage local audiences, working closely with the local service teams.

We are keen to establish a pipeline of potential supporters, from initial research and identification of prospective supporters through to developing and presenting compelling proposals to secure their support.

We are looking for someone with strong networking skills who can build relationships effectively and represent the charity at a variety of events and meetings, including local business network meetings giving impactful presentations about the charity’s work.

As part of the role you will provide excellent relationship management from initial enquiry to follow up and stewardship, to maximise supporters’ experience of the charity ensuring all supporters are thanked in a timely and appropriate manner.


You will recruit volunteers to support local fundraising initiatives and events.  


Generate case studies and testimonials and securing approvals for their use in the charity’s internal and external promotional materials.


Establish and maintain effective systems to record all fundraising, communications and volunteer activities keeping relevant records up to date on the charity’s donor database ensuring Gift Aid is maximised where possible.


Ensure that all community fundraising activities are compliant with legislation, the Fundraising regulator Code of Practice and to internal fundraising policies.

As part of the role there will be a requirement for regular travel across Oxfordshire and our other sites in Gloucestershire and Hertfordshire a driving licence and use of a vehicle is essential.


You will also need to be willing to work unsocial hours (including weekends and evenings) to support community fundraising initiatives, activities and events.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Ability to engage with and influence, acting with a high level of professionalism at all times.

  • Strong planning and organisational skills

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Ability to operate in a team based on the principles of trust, mutual respect and empowerment

  • Effective time management skills and the ability to prioritise conflicting workloads successfully

  • Experience of line managing staff and/or volunteers
