Job description

The Guild of Psychotherapists is one of England’s leading psychotherapy training organisations with 250 members and 70 trainees.  From our London headquarters we operate a clinic providing low-fee psychotherapy to people in Southwark, Lambeth and Lewisham.  This is a valuable and unique resource allowing individuals to access ongoing support for up to two years.

The Guild has an active programme of fund raising to finance both the Clinic and a series of repairs and improvements to our Grade II Listed building  It is anticipated that our current fund raising income will need to be increased to £50,000 per annum plus the salary for this post.

We are looking for an experienced and well-networked individual to join our team and drive our growth by identifying and securing significant grants from a diverse array of trusts, foundations, and grant-making bodies.  We would also like to expand our fundraising to the corporate sector.

The Fundraiser will be employed, for 7 hours per week and a salary £7,000 - £8,000 per annum is being offered depending on experience. This post is a one-year contract with the possibility of being made a permanent post after such time. 

 

1.            MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB              

               To maintain and develop the ongoing fundraising effort with established trusts, individual donors, local businesses and internal fundraising through the membership of the Guild including gift aided donations and subscriptions.  To create and develop new avenues in individual donations, legacies, corporate giving, public funding bodies such as the lottery, new trusts and statutory funding.

 

2.            MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·Maintaining and developing support from grant-giving trusts (including the preparation of applications, reports, and maintaining accurate records)

·Researching and developing the involvement of statutory and other funding sources

·Helping to ensure that The Guild maximises the tax advantages available to it (and its donors) as a charity and that its activities are consistent with Charity Law

·Assist in the preparation of  the Guild's Annual Report and other promotional literature and updating the same as required.

·Working to encourage the involvement of The Guild’s membership

·Liaison with other Guild Committees, in particular the Clinic and the Officers of The Guild.

·Promoting the general and local public profile of The Guild and encouraging the support of the general public and local industry.

3.            PERSON SPECIFICATION

                   Essential criteria:

·Trust and Corporate fund raising experience.

·Fund raising administration skills.  The post-holder is expected to be administratively self servicing. 

·Computer literacy - Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Internet and E-Mail

·Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

·Excellent interpersonal skills (fund raising is about making good relationships)

·Meticulous, organised approach and reliable personality

 

               Desirable criteria:

·Some understanding of psychotherapy and mental health issues would be an asset

·Clear strategy on how to raise £50,000 per annum for this Charity.
