Job description

Hackney Winter Night Shelter is a project of Hackney Doorways, which provides emergency overnight accommodation, support and advocacy for street homeless people in Hackney from November to March.

The shelter accommodation is based in church halls using a “roving shelter” model, with the venue changing each night.  Run largely by volunteers, we provide our night shelter guests with a safe place to sleep, a warm welcome and a hot evening meal and breakfast.  The vision of Hackney Doorways is to provide a route out of homelessness for those in need in Hackney.

We are currently seeking an Advocate Worker to deliver the core work of supporting guests to find more settled accommodation, as well as supporting them to address any barriers to moving on, such as debt, physical and mental health or problems with welfare benefits.

Our ideal candidate will be experienced in working with homeless people, and have excellent relationship skills in order to build and maintain relationships with a wide network of partner agencies to whom we signpost and refer people.

This role requires some evening and weekend work, and as such a high degree of commitment and flexibility. In return, it offers a highly rewarding and interesting working environment within a small, friendly and passionate organisation.

To apply for the position, please send your CV and a 2 page supporting statement demonstrating how you meet the requirements of the role set out in the person specification.
