Halesowen, West Midlands
£50,000 FTE
Permanent, Part-time
Job description

CEO of Hamlin Fistula UK

Hamlin Fistula UK is a small charity but we make a big difference to the lives of some of the most vulnerable women in the world. We’re over fifty years old but are now at a time of significant development and, with the retirement of our long-serving CEO, we are looking to appoint someone to take us forward over the next few years.

We are crucial in supporting Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia (HFE) as they work to eradicate the devastating childbirth injury, obstetric fistula, from the country. HFE runs six fistula hospitals, fifty-six health centres, a College of Midwives and a rehabilitative farm and training centre for long-term patients. Our work focuses on supporting them, which we do mainly by providing funding of around £500,000 to Ethiopia each year, raised primarily from individual donations but also from trusts, foundations and legacies.

The CEO post is for 22.5 hours per week which can be worked flexibly across at least three days, with at least one day in our Halesowen office. We are also open to negotiating the working pattern across the year by annualising the hours if appropriate. The salary is £30,000 (£50,000 FTE). Ideally, the successful candidate will be appointed and able to start by October.

The CEO is the sole permanent employee, although there is a contracted fundraiser who works for the charity two days per week. Given that the work of the charity is fundraising, we need someone who has experience in this area, with strong self-motivation skills, the ability to work with our board of trustees, a high degree of financial literacy, excellent written and spoken communication and the interpersonal skills to use these effectively with a wide range of audiences. The post-holder will have the chance to undertake all aspects of the charity’s work – an ideal opportunity for someone who knows about fundraising but wishes to expand their experience into other areas of charity work. Above all, to be successful in the role the new CEO will have to have a genuine commitment to the work and vision of Hamlin Fistula UK.

Hamlin Fistula UK is one of several Hamlin charities across the world and the CEO will be in contact with our Australian sister charity, the Catherine Hamlin Fistula Foundation. And working with senior managers at HFE is an important aspect of the work. In normal times the CEO and Chair of Trustees go to Ethiopia once a year to meet with HFE and the other international partners to discuss targets and budgets for the coming year.

If you think you are the person to take our work forward over the next few years, please see the attached job description for details of how to apply online.
