The Learning offer at Harewood spans over 20 years and is a current Sandford Award Holder (2018). In early 2020 we reviewed our Learning Strategy to ensure a joined up and inclusive approach to learning at Harewood. Learning plays a key role in Harewood’s ambition to re-imagine the country house for the 21st century by reinvigorating how audiences connect with us.
Our Learning Strategy is inspired by our brand values of working together to be caring of our collections, people, our community and planet, being adventurous in our aims to inspire curiosity and challenging all we do with rigour and imagination. It focuses on Tackling Inequalities, Connecting narratives, Responsive Programming, Access to Expertise and Collaboration.
This role will:
- Take responsibility for and realise Harewood’s strategic objectives for formal education, families and communities as set out in ‘A Shared Vision for Learning’, reporting to the Director of Collections, Programme & Learning and collaborating with key internal stakeholders
- Ensure learning is at the heart of all we do and part of future recruitment across the Trust, to grow audiences and embed Learning in all departments for the future to create greater resilience of Learning at Harewood
- Provide a seamless, innovative Learning offer that is sector-leading and unique to Harewood, rooted in our House, Plant and Living collections, underpinned with rigour and identifiable learning outcomes
- Create a sense of community through Learning at Harewood, underpinned by consultation, co-creation and representation of existing and under-represented audiences, so everyone feels Harewood is for them
- Work closely with the Development Manager to fundraise for projects identified in ‘A Shared Vision for Learning’ and to grow resource
- Identify and pursue opportunities for maximising Harewood’s assets and use of resources for Learning audiences through partnerships, fundraising and income generation
- Play a key part in Master Planning at Harewood including new physical spaces to improve our learning offer across the site
- Provide effective, empathetic and inspiring management of a growing team including freelance facilitators and volunteers; enabling colleagues to develop their skills and expertise in unison with Harewood’s values and objectives
- Update the learning offer to reflect changes in the curriculum and wider local learning offer, incorporating opportunities identified in recent research by Harewood House Trust funded by the Culture Recovery Fund
- Be part of Harewood’s ‘Digital Transformation’, harnessing the potential for virtual or blended learning through digital resources for schools and other audiences
- Position Harewood in the regional and national learning landscape from Early Years to post-graduate. Be a visible stakeholder in the region for Learning, building key relationships and ensuring Harewood consistently evolves with the wider offer e.g. Leeds Cultural Education Partnership, Leeds 2023, GEM (Group for Education in Museums)
- Regularly evaluate and review Harewood’s Learning Strategy and offer, proactively seeking ways to lead the sector and create inclusive, memorable learning experiences for existing and potential audiences
- Liaise across departments to provide skills development and career insight opportunities for young people and under-represented audiences.
