Job Description

About this role

This role is critical in enabling Future First to continue to build on its already successful portfolio of programmes. The Head of Innovation & Development is responsible for researching, designing and overseeing the implementation of a number of high impact and original Future First projects which will support schools across the UK in addressing some of the hard challenges they face. The Head of Innovation & Development must be able to demonstrate strong analytical skills in order to identify and present sustainable project solutions which will stand up to rigorous external evaluation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research, design and implementation of Impactful Intervention projects
  • Dissemination of on-going learning from Impact Intervention projects
  • Support with bid writing to secure funding for Impactful Intervention projects
  • Management  of Future First’s digital toolkit(s) and linked training programme(s)
  • Development of Future First resources for schools, including practical guides for schools on topics such as fundraising and mentoring
  • Continuous improvement and development of Future First’s bank of workshop session plans
  • Oversight of employer programmes, including overall monitoring and evaluation
  • Contribute to Future First’s organisational approach to monitoring and evaluation
  • Development and delivery of a quality assurance process to ensure our delivery teams’ facilitation skills maintain Future First’s reputation as the market leader for alumni event delivery in schools
  • Coordination of our freelancer facilitators, including quality monitoring of delivery
  • Strong working relationships with other senior management colleagues to ensure successful matrix management of delivery staff team
  • Lead, develop and deliver Future First’s CPD teacher training programme, ensuring its trajectory of growth is sustained
  • Line management of a small team

Person Specification


  • Ability to design workshops which meet specific learning objectives
  • A creative and analytical mind, able to design impactful workshops and sessions
  • An understanding of the challenges facing schools, and how bespoke interventions might support these
  • Experience of/and proactive attitude to process improvement
  • Adept at translating theory and/or research findings into practice
  • Experience of building successful working relationships with senior external stakeholders
  • Experience of developing resources suitable for use by teaching staffing
  • Positive and proactive approach to risk management of pilot projects
  • Strong understanding of impact evaluation
  • Strong communication skills, able to engage with a variety of audiences
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Exceptional organisational skills
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and prioritise work-flow
  • Experience of using CRM software to produce accurate reports
  • Understanding of issues facing students in UK state education system
