The Children's Society is looking for a Head of Marketing Communications. This role will lead the Marketing Communications Team and manage our internal stakeholders to deliver high quality marketing communications plans, with an emphasis on both insightful communications messaging, delivering content for our marketing communications channels and evaluating our impact. This role will also help oversee how we can build our brand by extending our reach through communications platforms and partnerships. This role will hold crisis communications and reputational management.
Key responsibilities of the role are to
-Ensure that all our external communications across our core audiences deliver maximum impact for children and young people, by managing a team that works across the whole organisation, developing and delivering high quality marketing communications plans.
-Ensure we are building our brand through consistent and coherent messaging within our external communications work and extending our brands reach through non financial partnership and new platforms for engagement.
-Build good working relationships across the organisation with key stakeholders and with delivery partners such as Brand, Creative Services, Digital and Internal Comms to ensure that our external communications are consistent and deliver maximum value.
-Build and develop an effective team that works well across the organisation, supporting their personal and professional development, ensuring audit compliant process and budget management and by playing an active role in our planning processes.
Key activities for this role are to
-Ensure our external marketing communications work reflects the voice of children and young people in both its development and execution, with particular focus on creating opportunities to increase our co-production with our beneficiaries.
-Oversee the development and delivery of our integrated marketing communications plans across all our target audiences, working collaborative across the organization.
-Ensure that we are managing our brand through consistent application of our narrative and messaging both within these marketing communications plans and through our other communications activity.
-Ensure that marketing and communications plans and other external marketing communications activity is supported with the relevant communications tools e.g. FAQs etc
-Protect our brand and organizational reputation with proactive and reactive crisis management communications planning.
-Maximize opportunities to build our brand and effectively position The Children's Society, through new and innovative platforms e.g. events, conferences, awards etc. Develop a programme of communications led partnerships i.e. non-financial partnerships both on and off line, to extend our reach.
-Ensure that all aspects of the team's work is evaluated against clear objectives and that the teams work can demonstrate a positive impact on the lives of children and young people.
-Work collaboratively across the organization to build good working relationships with internal stakeholders and delivery teams within the directorate.
-Role model and build a team that lives and breathes our brand values and behaviours and provide effective management support to that team including personal and professional development.
-Effectively represent and manage the team by leading the planning process and ensuring that its administrative processes are audit compliant, work is managed within budgets and organisational performance reporting requirements are met.
-Represent our external communications agenda and the work of the team at a senior level as required, participating in steering groups, projects, workshops etc and by providing SLT with appropriate advice and guidance.
Key skills, knowledge and experience required for this role include
-Degree/post graduate qualification in marketing communications or equivalent through experience
-Ability to develop and inspire marketing communications teams in a third sector environment and apply marketing communications principles in a third sector environment
-A strong professional communications skills set in terms of defining narrative and messaging with strong presentation, influencing and negotiating skills and the ability to work and influence at all levels
-Excellent written, verbal and numeric skills including the ability to create compelling and accurate copy
-Ability to manage budgets
-Computer literate i.e. Microsoft Office packages, including Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook
-Knowledge of the issues which effect the UK's most vulnerable young people is desirable
-Excellent knowledge of the principles of marketing communications and how to leverage this to generate income, influence and impact
-Operational knowledge of marketing communications channels with particular emphasis on digital and media
-Knowledge of organizational and departmental planning and performance management and monitoring
-Experience of developing marketing communications teams that exceed expectations; providing expert marketing communications advice and guidance including crisis management; developing and creating new marketing communications platforms and external partnerships and managing a broad range of departmental stakeholders in complex, fast paced environment
