Job Description

Refuge is the country’s largest provider of specialist services for victims of all forms of gender-based violence (domestic, sexual, so called ‘honour’ violence, trafficking, prostitution, forced marriage, stalking and FGM). Every day we support over 4,500 women and children in a national network of services.  These include Independent Domestic, Sexual and Gender-based Violence Advocacy services (IDVAs/ISVAs and IGVAs), community outreach and culturally specific services, specialist refuge accommodation, sanctuary services and the Freephone 24 Hour National Domestic Violence Helpline (run in partnership between Refuge and Women’s Aid). Refuge advises the Government and lobbies to keep violence against women and girls high on the public agenda. We give women and children a voice through our award-winning awareness raising campaigns, Refuge is an accredited training provider. Refuge was recently awarded ‘Charity of the Year’ at the Charity Times Awards 2016.

Salary: £21,420 - £24,480 per annum

Hours:  37.5 hours per week

Location: London, Tower Hill

Refuge, an award winning national charity, has created a new role of receptionist administrator to act as the first point of contact at Refuge’s head office.  This is an opportunity to work for an exciting and successful charity with its headquarters situated between Tower Bridge and St Katharine Docks. 

A confident communicator with good interpersonal skills, you will you will have the ability to deal with people from all walks of life, exercising tact, diplomacy and sensitivity.  Your duties will include dealing with members of the public, politicians, the media, police, social services, and funders. Most important, at times you may be the initial response to victims of domestic and sexual violence with responsibility for ensuring they are signposted to the most appropriate support service. You will treat all callers and visitors with respect irrespective of background and maintain confidentiality at all times. 

You will have experience of working in an office environment, with a focus on customer service. You will have a good standard of general education to at least A level (or equivalent), including good spoken and written English.  You will be computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook) and have demonstrable experience of reception duties.  You will be able to work under pressure and deliver a range of responsibilities efficiently and effectively.
