The Helen Bamber Foundation (HBF) is a pioneering Human Rights charity supporting refugees and asylum seekers who are the survivors of extreme human cruelty. The people we work with have been subjected to atrocities including state-sponsored torture, human trafficking, religious and political persecution, forced labour, sexual exploitation, and gender-based and ‘honour-based’ violence. Recognising the complexity of each client’s suffering and needs, HBF offers specialist services within a Model of Integrated Care encompassing: therapy; medical advice; legal protection; counter-trafficking support; housing and welfare advice; and community and integration.
HBF exists to ensure that all survivors of trafficking and torture are free, safe, physically and mentally healthy, are protected from re-victimisation, detention and poverty, and have the ability and agency to integrate in and contribute to the communities around them. HBF uses its unique expertise to drive change and improve practice and policy for all survivors.
HBF’s Kickstart programme
The DWP’s Kickstart programme has enabled HBF to create five Administrator roles: 6-month placements for 25 hours a week, paid at the London Living Wage, with a comprehensive package of learning and development support alongside the day-to-day professional development you will get through carrying out tasks in your team.
Approximately 6-9 hours each week will be dedicated to your professional development. The employability support for our Kickstarters includes:
- Weekly 1-2-1 support with an experienced line manager
- Weekly peer coaching with other Kickstarters
- Daily learning journal to reflect on personal development
- Weekly group project working together with other Kickstarters
- Weekly facilitated group reflection sessions with other Kickstarters
- Monthly 1-2-1 development sessions with the Kickstart programme manager
- Fortnightly training sessions on various topics, including goal setting and job hunting
All HBF Kickstart placements are predominantly administrative, with no pre-requisite training or expertise required to carry out the roles. Depending on progress and individual interests, we will also provide role-specific training to begin to involve you in more specialised or complicated areas of work within your team.
HBF Kickstart roles will involve a range of tasks, activities and responsibilities, with certain roles involving some managed exposure to highly sensitive and traumatic content. Where this happens, it will be guided by an experienced staff member line managing the Kickstarter, but in these roles, it is important that Kickstarters are prepared for and feel comfortable with this element of the work.

The deadline for applications is Monday 14th February at 9am and interviews are scheduled for Monday 21st - Monday 28th February. The successful candidate will start on Tuesday 22th March 2022. All offers of employment will be subject to a DBS criminal record check at Basic level.
