Chief Executive Officer – HEY Credit Union


Salary:                                                        £50,000 to £55,000

Relocation and benefits package:           Negotiable

HEY Credit Union is a not-for-profit financial co-operative, owned and run by its members in the Humber Region and beyond, for whom it provides fair and responsible savings and loans. 

Established in 1999, we are a high performing credit union; membership, savings, loans and assets are all growing, capital exceeds the regulatory requirement, and we enjoy excellent feedback from service users.

We are ambitious about further scaling-up to serve more people, offer more services relevant to their needs, and make an even bigger difference to our members’ lives.

With our inaugural CEO’s planned retirement early next year, the Board of Directors are seeking to appoint an outstanding individual with the passion to lead us on the next phase of our exciting development journey and drive the organisation forward to achieve its vision. 

The Role

The CEO will be responsible for:

  • working with the Board to develop and implement our Strategic Business Plan and ensure that our vision, values and objectives are delivered effectively; 
  • planning and promoting new products, channels and delivery processes to ensure ongoing improvements to member services, supporting our members’ financial wellbeing;
  • developing networks and activities and forging partnerships, to maximise HEY Credit Union’s opportunities and profile within the community served;
  • compliance with all regulatory and financial controls and maintaining effective working relationships with the Board and other stakeholders;
  • leading, managing and supporting HEY Credit Union’s team of staff and volunteer colleagues.


The Person

The successful candidate will be passionate about the core values and ethos of the credit union movement and ideally have:

  • Experience of managing a credit union or other financial institution.
  • Experience of developing and managing business plans and budgets and providing service delivery to a high standard.
  • Evidence of understanding consumer needs and improving service delivery.
  • A demonstrable track record of delivering in a regulated environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to influence and manage internal and external stakeholders effectively.
  • Experience of maintaining effective relationships with a board of directors.
  • Significant and proven leadership and management skills.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  • A good understanding of current and emerging financial markets, opportunities, and their influences on the credit union.
