Head of Health and Safety
We are one of the largest learning disability charities in the UK, supporting over 2,500 people through our friendly, supportive, creative and diverse teams.
Reporting to the Executive Director of People and Communications you will be responsible for developing and delivering a strategic approach to Health and Safety management across the organisation, to support and drive a safety culture across all our environments and activities. This will include creating systems, polices and processes that enable Hft to:
- Achieve and evidence compliance
- Define and deliver excellence
- Benchmark activity internally and against industry comparators
- Achieve the appropriate accreditations
- Use data and insight to drive continuous improvement
To support our transformation agenda, you will ensure that Hft provides safe working environments for our staff and that the people we support are able to live their lives as they would like whilst balancing risk and without unnecessary restrictions. The role will involve working with members of the Executive team, acting in an advisory capacity for senior management on all health and safety related matters.
Salary: £48,085 per annum plus car or car allowance
Hours: Full Time, Permanent, 35 hours
Location: Bristol, or home based with regular travel to Bristol and other UK sites

The successful candidate will be qualified to NEBOSH General Certificate level as a minimum and be a member of IOSH or IIRSM, and/or be willing to obtain accredited membership.
You will have demonstrable hands-on health and safety experience, be able to communicate with a wide range of audiences, including internal stakeholders, and have a working knowledge of national, European and international safety standards.
You will have previous experience of leading and managing teams, developing policies and procedures and project management. Ideally you will have experience of using speciality health and safety computer software and managing a budget.
The role includes regular travel so a full, valid UK driving licence and willingness to travel nationally with overnight stays is essential.
