Role
Rowan Alba works to end homelessness in Edinburgh by providing permanent supported homes and building relationships with individuals in crisis. We also work in our communities with volunteers who provide vital support to the most vulnerable in an attempt to prevent homelessness. Our experience lends itself to exemplar training programmes aimed at helping employers understand conditions around addictions.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and confident communicator for the new role of Corporate and Community Fundraising Manager to increase awareness of our work and develop new funding streams from individual, community and corporate partnerships.

You will be a creative, organised and motivated individual with a positive track record in working independently to develop corporate and community funder relationships.

Working alongside our Communications Manager, Trusts and Grants Fundraising Manager and Leadership Team you will develop an engagement strategy to help increase awareness of our work and raise vital funds to support our organisational development including the creation of new permanent homes for individuals with long-term experience of homelessness.

Main duties and responsibilities will include:

• Developing and maintaining relationships with new and existing corporate partners
• Developing opportunities to deliver training to corporate staff and organising volunteering activities
• Working with staff and volunteers to develop and implement community fundraising opportunities including sponsorship activities and local events
• Organising events for key stakeholders to increase Rowan Alba profile
• Managing relevant KPIs and appropriate CRM system for all individual and corporate funder communication and outcomes
• Ensuring the organisation adheres to the codes of fundraising practice set by the Fundraising Regulator

Core competencies

• Experience in relationship building and delivering long term funding support from a variety of sources
• Excellent presentation, verbal and written skills
• Ability to manage a varied workload and work independently, and with a small core team
• Experience of event organisation and management including working with volunteers
• Administrative skills and experience in use of appropriate CRM solutions, cloud-based platforms such as SharePoint, Zoom, Teams
• Demonstrate respect and compassion to the people we work with and represent Rowan Alba positively and professionally at all times

As the lead on a truly strategic and project-driven partnership, this role will operate at the heart of the charity and its partner organisation and lead on the successful delivery in all aspects of the partnership. Key duties include:

• Lead on the successful delivery of this partnership in line with the agreed objectives by providing first class account management and strategic planning.
• Produce annual plans, budgets and KPIs to effectively manage the partnership, including leading on all reporting and budgeting for the partnership.
• Create and maintain effective communication channels and processes that keep everyone informed, involved and engaged in the partnership both internally and externally;
• Develop effective working relationships with a range of cross functional teams and key internal and external stakeholders.
• Work from the partner office (1 hour by train from London) twice a month.

We’re looking for the following skills and experience for this role:

• Experience managing complex, high-value corporate partnerships, ideally with  a marketing or consumer-facing element.  
• Experience managing or supporting on £1M+ partnerships is highly beneficial.
• Outstanding project, stakeholder and budget management skills.
• Line management experience is a plus.

We are looking to recruit an Individual Giving and Gifts in Wills Manager to manage and deliver the Individual Giving and Gifts in Wills (Legacy and In Memoriam) income streams for the Centre.  This is an exciting role in our Fundraising team that will manage income pipelines and associated expenditure required to raise income, provide monthly monitoring and use data to analyse fundraising results. This role will also develop and implement strategies to retain, recruit and acquire new supporters.

In addition, you will also provide excellent stewardship to an aging supporter base and ensure the people who donate to the Centre receive a wonderfully warm and personal donor experience, engaging and inspiring donors with stories and updates about the work.

The role will work across both businesses following their partnership agreement in January 2023. Both businesses are steeped in the history of Birmingham, with the origins of The Yardley Great Trust Group going back to the 14th Century and SJMT’s beginnings in 1868. Their work in the Alms House arena is also highly individual, an area of support found in the heritage of SJMT.

The Finance Director role would ideally start swiftly and will take on a largely strategic direction whilst still requiring operational input.

Based in Olton, candidates with experience in a senior leadership role in finance whilst holding an understanding of how charities, housing providers or public sector organisations work will be highly advantageous.

The Finance Director post will cover many facets including, but not limited to:

Executive Leadership

• Working with the executive team to develop and manage the delivery of robust corporate, strategic and financial business plans
• Demonstrating positive leadership behaviours and bringing values to life within the organisational culture
• Effectively planning and providing for the resources required to action strategic and operational plans
• Undertaking quarterly reviews of the Charity's Risk Registers, reporting on major risks and mitigations at each Board meeting.

Financial Strategy and Control

• Leading on the delivery of strategic and annual financial business plans, ensuring viability is regularly tested through scenario modelling, appraisals, and stress tests
• Taking responsibility for annual budget and management accounts processes and preparation of statutory accounts
• Maintaining up-to-date reserves policies that meet the requirements of both the Charity SORP and RSL SORP
• Managing relationships with investment managers, ensuring regular review of performance and satisfaction
• Developing and maintaining effective systems of financial control that ensure that business plans are continually reviewed and reported on
• Maintaining overall responsibility for the computerised accounting system, including sales ledger, purchase ledger, cash book and nominal ledger

Treasury

• Being responsible for each Trust’s Treasury Management strategy and policy to ensure the availability of and flexibility of funding to support the achievement of strategic objectives and reduce exposure

Risk Management

• Leading on the development of risk management strategies and registers, audit frameworks, procedures and appraisal systems for capital projects and all other significant areas of risk.   

Growth and Innovation

• To support the Chief Executive in the development of the Strategic Business Plans in a way that supports innovation and growth in services

ICT / HR

• Leading on the development and delivery of an effective ICT and Telecoms Strategy which supports mobile and agile working and customer relationship management that underpins our drive for excellent business
• Supporting with the development, implementation and review of an effective People Strategy which supports the vision and values of each Trust
• Reviewing the administration of all statutory returns and sector-relevant returns/surveys
• Leading on the annual remuneration review to approve or decline and make recommendations for salary increases
• Taking responsibility for the outsourced payroll and workplace pension scheme
• Overseeing the relationship with the outsourced IT support provider, ensuring optimal support to staff and monitoring performance against contract
• Working with and developing the use of financial accounting software to meet the operational and strategic development needs of the business

To secure the Finance Director post, the Trusts are seeking the below:

• Proven experience at a senior leadership level in a finance environment
• Experience preparing financial business plans, modelling scenarios and sensitivity analysis
• A track record of delivering on a range of other corporate support services such as IT or HR and Governance
• A relevant Professional Qualification i.e. CCAB or equivalent and membership of a recognised UK body desirable
• Up-to-date knowledge of all regulatory requirements including Finance, People, IT & Governance
• Experience developing services to achieve and support strategic organisational objectives.

C4WS Welfare Coordinator Advert 2024:

C4WS Homeless Project (registered charity, no 1189622) which provides support to people experiencing homelessness year-round, through a well-established winter night shelter in Camden, a lunchtime club, Jobs Club, mentoring scheme, hosting scheme and various other activities. We are passionate about helping people rebuild their lives after homelessness and working towards living independently.

What We Do:

Every winter, we work with a number of churches in the London Borough of Camden who offer their venues to us to run a night shelter. We operate from a different venue every night of the week, and run one circuit, accommodating 16 guests.

We provide camp beds and offer a hot evening meal. Our guests leave in the morning after a hot breakfast, ready to attend activities and meetings in our offices in Euston.

Advice and Support

Whilst the shelter operates seasonally, every winter, our team works year round, dedicated to offering advice, advocacy and practical support. This can be accessed by former night shelter guests, and via our weekly drop in, Friday Club. Guests can also access other services provided by C4WS including lunch, laundry and showers.

The Role:

Our small, dedicated team is looking for a Welfare Coordinator, to deliver holistic welfare support to all those who access our services. You will work alongside another member of the team to ensure that guests are supported both during and after their stay in the C4WS night shelter to ensure the stability of their move on.

You will possess a passion for working in the homeless sector, supporting those experiencing homelessness to rebuild their lives and ideally have direct and relevant experience of working with this demographic, or similarly vulnerable and/or disadvantaged groups.

As well as providing Welfare Support, you will also be a presence at the shelter for up to two evenings a week during the shelter season (November – March) including weekends, and you will need to lead a team of volunteers to ensure the safe running of the shelter on those occasions.

C4WS is a small charity, that delivers an outstanding service to those who access our support. It is thanks to a wide network of referral partners, corporate and individual volunteers, plus the support of several religious communities in Camden, who we have worked with over the last 20 years, that we can have such a positive impact on a person’s life. You will become part of that network, and learn more about the sector, as well as being focused on the current landscape of homelessness in the Borough of Camden.

Essential:

• Experience of working with and supporting homeless people, or similarly vulnerable and/or disadvantaged groups.

• Highly organised, the ability to prioritise workload and work efficiently to deadlines.

• Strong interpersonal skills: the ability to listen to and work effectively alongside shelter guests, volunteers, staff, trustees and partner agencies.

• Experience of assessing risks both formally and ongoing, and at putting appropriate measures In place.

• Experience of managing challenging behaviour, incidents and emergencies.

• Good oral and written communication skills.

• The ability to take initiative when appropriate and work unsupervised, including being punctual and reliable.

• Good office-based administrative skills including computer literacy.

• Ability to work flexibly and collaboratively.

• The willingness to undertake any training, as deemed appropriate by C4WS.

Desirable

• Knowledge of welfare benefits process

• Experience of representing an organisation publicly i.e. via the media and at events 

• Knowledge of Camden 

Salary: £30,000 per annum

Contract: 1 year contract subject to review and extension based on performance
