The Individual Giving Officer will work closely with the Director of Fundraising & Engagement and the Head of Fundraising to deliver significant elements of the charity’s fundraising strategy, in particular our Individual Giving income. The post holder will be responsible for growing our cash and regular donor income through both acquisition and retention activities, including through our flagship Dry January® campaign.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Campaign project management:

Plan, manage and deliver innovative and impactful supporter campaigns across a range of channels.

Operate within set budgets and achieve income targets outlined in annual plans.

Produce clear and succinct briefs to agencies, suppliers and internal stakeholders.

Use marketing judgement to proof, edit and develop compelling creative, and make sound decisions on proposals and testing plans.

Work closely with the Director of Fundraising and Engagement, Fundraising and Engagement Manager, Community and Challenge Events Officer and Communications team to successfully deliver campaigns and evaluations.

Support the development of an effective welcome and supporter journey, to help increase the average lifetime value of donors.

Continually test and learn across campaigns to improve performance.

Deliver campaigns in a compliant way, adhering to GDPR and fundraising regulation and Code of Conduct.

Lead on the research, design and implementation of key products including Mid-Level Giving and a new legacy proposition.
Supporter Care:

Work with the Fundraising & Engagement Assistant to ensure excellent levels of supporter care is provided to all our individual giving donors. Including the reviewing and refining of existing processes.

Oversee the maintenance of our individual supporter data within our CRM
Reporting and analysis:

Closely monitor campaign results and provide updates on performance.

Produce post-campaign analysis reports.

Work with the Director of Fundraising & Engagement to develop and update existing reporting mechanisms.

Make recommendations to improve the performance of future campaigns based on evidence and data.
Competitor analysis and industry perspective:

Use existing research and insight, and where appropriate, undertake and commission new projects to derive new / further insight and analysis.

Administration:

Manage the administrative tasks for the Individual Giving team, such as processing invoices, ordering stock and updating key documents and materials both online and offline.

JOB PURPOSE

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
Development and delivery of the charity’s fundraising strategy
· To work closely with the CEO and trustee board to lead on the development, planning and delivery the Doorstep Library’s fundraising strategy, with further development of a longer-term strategy;
· To manage and build upon the income streams for the charity;
· To take a lead on application bids, including managing, monitoring and evaluating all funding applications;

Grow, develop and sustain our partnerships and income streams
· To lead, deliver and grow our existing relationships with all of our funding partners; foundations, corporates, independent schools and individual donors to raise circa £850K pa;
· To identify new potential partners, working closely with the CEO and board of trustees to develop these partnerships;
· To establish a corporate supporters programme and individual giving campaigns, plus develop effective stewardship systems;
· To have responsibility for retaining and engaging the charity’s supporters, this includes providing formal reports and updates on the work of the charity;
· Working with the Fundraising and Marketing Officers to effectively communicate the impact of our work to internal and external stakeholders;
Communications
· Work with the Marketing Officer to implement improvements to our digital presence, including website optimization, social media strategy, and online advertising campaigns;

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential Criteria
1. A proven track record of delivery results in fundraising and/or partnership management
2. Knowledge of successful fundraising from a variety of sources, including at least two of corporates, major donors, individual giving, local authorities and trusts & foundations
3. Proven experience in securing five figure gifts, managing the donor cycle from initial stages through to stewardship

Father Hudson’s Care (FHC) is the social care agency of the Catholic Archdiocese of Birmingham. We require an experienced senior manager to lead our Community Projects Department. This is an exciting opportunity to join our Senior Management Team and be part of a regional charity with a very diverse range of services.
Suitable candidates will have extensive experience in developing and managing services/projects in a community setting and in management of senior staff. With a proven track record in securing funding, you will have a good understanding of a wide range of income streams and be able to manage complex budgets. This is essential with a department of over 77 staff / 200 volunteers and an overall budget of over £2 million with multiple funding streams.
Our community projects reach out to individuals who are marginalised and in need, including asylum seekers, refugees and migrants, older people and individuals experiencing homelessness. FHC Community Projects are delivered as local partnerships and we provide support to independent charities. The projects are diverse in provision and size, are delivered by staff and volunteer teams and provide a breadth of services in community settings including social support, advice, practical help, emergency and longer-term accommodation. FHC projects include Brushstrokes Community Project in Smethwick, Tabor Living in Birmingham, Young at Heart in North Staffordshire, Fatima House and Sophia House in Birmingham, Nicolas Barre House in Willenhall and Refugee Community Sponsorship schemes across the Diocese. Charities we provide support to include St Chad’s Sanctuary, Hope Community and Maryvale Community Project.
With experience of networking and partnership working, the successful candidate will have excellent negotiation and communication skills. As a team player, you will also be able to work on your own initiative and be responsive and flexible to the constantly changing environment of delivering charitable services in the community. You will have excellent IT skills, be able to multi-task to a high level and work to deadlines. With an understanding of the issues our diverse client groups face including policy and legislation.

We have two Individual Giving Manager vacancies within the mental health sector. These are newly created roles at separate but connected charities.
One is with the umbrella charity and the other is with one of their member charities. Reporting into the same Head of Individual Giving, each role will lead its own charity in developing income from individual giving.
The umbrella charity is a younger charity in operation for 7 years, and they are about to launch a product linked to women’s health and mental health – a sector leading step for them.
The member charity has been in existence for around 50 years and supports people severely affected by mental illness. They have a loyal support base which is cash-led.
The roles will need the same skill set from individual giving experts but will have their own nuances and differences. The roles are fully responsible for all individual giving activity, with income of c.£300,000 a year for each charity.
Both charities are in the investment stage of developing the programmes and there will be opportunity for creative and innovation on both programmes.
There is an individual giving officer for each role that will report to each manager.
As both programmes are developing there is the need to keep improving on processes, reporting and systems.

2. Job Description
The Head of External Engagement is a key leadership post within the organisation. The role encompasses responsibility for the development and delivery of the organisation’s external activity, including profile, brand identity and stakeholder engagement (including the public), fundraising, and driving income generation in new areas, notably commercial partnerships. It also forms part of Sound and Music’s senior management team, who under the leadership of the Chief Executive are responsible for overseeing the organisation’s programme of activity, strategic development, external profile and a positive and productive organisational culture.
An experienced fundraiser and communicator, you will lead the external engagement team and support the delivery of its strategic and operational plans. The broad remit of the role means the successful candidate will be a strong and confident communicator who builds networks easily and prioritises exceptional stakeholder management and relationship development.
Sound and Music operates a hybrid working model with a mix of in person and remote working, so we welcome applications from anywhere in the UK. Our office is in London and the minimum requirement will be to attend one day per week.

3. Key Responsibilities
Leadership and management
External leadership:
· Represent Sound and Music publicly, including through stakeholder and supporter events
· Work with the Head of Programmes to ensure Sound and Music’s advisory groups are meaningfully engaged
· Be the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead for Sound and Music
Internal leadership:
· Shared strategic responsibility and accountability for Sound and Music’s three core aims and their associated objectives, outcomes and outputs
· Shared accountability (with other senior management colleagues) for the successful delivery and implementation of the organisation’s Business Plan
· Lead the organisation’s External Engagements team. This team includes a Communications and Insights Manager and Fundraising Coordinator (both line managed by the Head of External Engagement) plus support from other Sound and Music team members
Development and fundraising
· Develop and support the Chief Executive on the overall business and development strategy for the organisation to ensure we meet fundraising targets (£200k in 2024-25) for annual programmes and major projects
· Develop an ambitious fundraising programme which builds our supporter base and individual funding streams, including individuals, major gifts and public funders
· Drive income growth by identifying and negotiating commercial partnerships and contribute to the development of an enhanced commercial mindset across the organisation
· Develop and cultivate the existing trusts and foundations pipeline
· Prepare documents and reports for key funders including Arts Council England
· Build and maintain positive and productive relationships with key funders, commercial organisations and stakeholders and cultivate existing relationships within the organisation
· Establish new income streams, for example, by maximising the intellectual property created within the organisation
· Engage the Board of Trustees and senior management team in fundraising activities and the ongoing strategy to optimise donor management and stewardship to develop a culture of fundraising across the organisation
· Maximise the opportunities provided by the new CRM system and contribute to the development of a data-led mindset across the organisation
Communications and campaigns
· Develop and lead the overall communications and reputation management strategy for varied stakeholders to ensure we increase our visibility and influence in the sector
· Support the Chief Executive to build the profile of our brand, drive the media messaging and oversee and power our content media campaigns
· Support the Chief Executive to build and maintain positive and productive relationships with government and culture and media opinion formers
Strategy and planning
· Work with the Chief Executive and other senior management team members to monitor, evaluate and review KPIs, strategies and activity so as to maximise Sound and Music’s impact. This includes reporting and presenting to the Board and externally to help build engagement and relationships in the sector and with funders
· Assess the reputational, financial, delivery and other risks associated with current and new projects and partnerships
· Empower, model, support and encourage cross-team working to realise the full income generating possibilities of projects
Finance and governance
· Contribute to creating and monitoring the overall organisation budget
· Work closely with the Chief Executive, Head of Programmes and Finance Manager to formulate financial strategy against specified budget areas, and to ensure that the programme activity is sufficiently resourced, planned and delivered to budget
· Ensure close monitoring of income and expenditure for relevant budget lines and contribute to senior management team financial planning and review
· Attend Board and Financial Subcommittee meetings to present and report impact on a quarterly basis
Special conditions of the post
· Travel within the UK, as required by the role
· A willingness to represent the organisation internationally on an occasional basis
· Evening and weekend working to attend and network at events will be required (time off in lieu is taken afterwards)

Essential:

· Excellent team leadership skills, with high emotional intelligence and generosity, a genuine enthusiasm for encouraging the input and ideas of others
· Strong budgeting and financial planning skills, and the ability to work collaboratively on this
· An entrepreneurial mindset: success in leveraging income, developing new income streams and value through commercial acumen and effective strategic partnership building
· A track record in championing and addressing under-representation in culture and a deep-rooted commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion
Desirable:
· Experience of increasing brand profile, developing brand awareness, and expanding audiences for a specialist product or service
· Understanding of the current political, economic, social and technological climate, including the context for culture and public funding and an active engagement with technological developments in creativity

This role will sit within the wider Income and Generation Team and will work closely with colleagues across the Centre to ensure that the approach to Individual and Corporate Giving aligns with the Centre’s ambition to be a community-led organisation, working with the community to develop and implement a person-centred, holistic and integrated model of support, driven by what matters to the community.
This role needs to promote a positive culture of collaboration, creativity and innovation across the organisation as well with external stakeholders. It will play an important role in enabling the team to achieve their strategic goals and contribute to developing the internal culture of the organisation, specifically driving forward a commitment to being a truly antiracist and inclusive organisation and creating space for honest conversations and feedback.
As Individual and Corporate Giving Manager, you will:
- Develop and nurture effective relationships and strategic partnerships with major donors and corporates (in collaboration with the Head of Income Generation and Marketing and CEO), increasing value and loyalty from donors at four and five+ figure level, supporting an income target of £300k
- Steward and recruit individual and corporate donors whilst developing and retaining regular and cash givers
- Build on existing individual donor programmes and corporate relationships and have creative input into the Individual and Corporate Giving strategy that aligns with organisational objectives
- Explore and test new methods for donor recruitment and retention
Ideal skills and experience:
