We have ambitious plans to grow and reach more parents when they need us most. This new post to develop our communications, is key.

- Experience creating a communication strategy and delivering against it
- Experience developing effective external comms across a range of channels, especially digital
- Strong writing skills
- Experience in the charity sector, and comms in support of fundraising. This is not essential, but will be an advantage.
Overview of the charity
Home-Start Oxford is a small charity making a big impact for families in the local area. Our trained volunteers and expert support staff help families with young children so they don’t have to face their toughest times alone. The parents we support are often overwhelmed and isolated. They may be struggling with mental health, illness, disability, multiple birth, poverty, domestic abuse, separation or trauma. We provide both 1:1 and group support, operating from bases in Oxford and Witney.
Our award-winning charity has been helping families in Oxford City, West and Central Oxfordshire for over 30 years. We are an independent charity, and part of the wider Home-Start network – the largest volunteer-led family support movement in the UK. We work closely with other local Home-Starts regionally and nationally, as well as with Home-Start UK
You will be part of a welcoming, committed team based in our office in Blackbird Leys. We offer flexible working, and you will be part of a team in which everyone works part-time. You will be based primarily in the office and will need to attend our team meetings, which are currently on Tuesday morning, but on Monday when our group sessions resume. Otherwise, there is flexibility on the pattern of days and hours. We are currently working from home.
It’s an exciting time to join Home-Start Oxford. We are embarking on an ambitious new three-year strategy to significantly increase the number of families we support through volunteer recruitment, training and fundraising.
Enhancing our communications to grow our reputation across all stakeholder groups is key to extending our reach, growing our community, and increasing our funding. Integral to this is the promotion of our values on parenting, equality and diversity.
We are in a strong place, and are investing in infrastructure and communications supported by a grant from Step-Change.
This is a new role and a great opportunity for a passionate self-starter who wants to make a real impact and lead the development and implementation of our communications activity.
