Home-Start Glasgow South are looking for volunteers with parenting experiences to help local families in the South of Glasgow (with at least one child aged 8 or under) who could use some additional support. Our volunteers will use their own experiences of parenting to help by offering emotional support and practical help to families, with the aim of enabling them to lead less stressful and more enjoyable lives.
Home-visiting volunteers join us to engage with this hugely fulfilling opportunity to support local families in ways that make a lasting impact, one which can change lives.
The needs of individual families will vary but a Home-visiting Volunteer role may involve: -
•Activities with children: playing, reading, outdoor games, helping parents with routine and managing behaviour
•Practical support: help with budgeting, writing letters and phone calls, shopping, cooking, improving hygiene, helping the family to enjoy a day out
•Emotional support: being a listening ear for a parent and empathising
•Support to access services: accompanying to appointments, signposting to services and groups
We take all our volunteers through a FREE, 9 session training course (or condensed course when available) to ensure that they are fully prepared and confident in the role.
Volunteers are not currently entering families homes, this will continued to be reviewed in response to Covid-19 rules and restrictions. However, in the meantime volunteers will be given the opportunity to provide telephone/videocall support.
Unfortunately this role is only available to people who have some form of parenting experience.
