Job description

Are you an experienced leader and manager, keen to drive this growing charity’s momentum as they move into the next phase of their exciting journey? Have you worked at a senior level in the charity sector, with a sound understanding of housing and community?

HOORAY are excited to be working in exclusive partnership with YMCA Cheltenham to recruit a new Chief Executive Officer as the standing CEO looks forward to retirement later this year.

Founded in 1855, YMCA Cheltenham has been a major provider of accommodation, sports facilities and youth work for more than 160 years. Holding fast to their Christian roots and ethos, they aim to work with the whole person - body, mind and spirit; building character, health and relationships as a part of their everyday operation. Being an independent local charity, they know what the local community needs and we are able to respond quickly to the ever-changing needs of the people around them.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer will oversee and manage the charity’s operation from the top - assuming responsibility for the financial health of the organisation and ensuring efficiency across finance, HR and information management. As CEO, you will be the face of the organisation, building effective relationships with the community as well as with religious, political and business leaders at a senior level. You will lead development across the organisation in all areas, cultivating a culture of continuous improvement in the way it operates and at all times promote a community spirit and the Christian values the charity is built on.

Coming in as Chief Executive Officer, you will have a sound knowledge of the housing and youth work sectors, having gained experience working within a charity organisation previously. You will need an understanding of social housing and the wider needs of young people as well as the Criminal Justice and Children Act’s. You will have at least five years demonstrable experience of leadership and management, with a track record in developing new projects.

The successful Chief Executive Officer will be strategic, thorough and personable with a track record of developing effective working relationships with organisations, partners and funders. A skilled presenter and public speaker, you will be confident and show leadership in all situations, but also be able to show experience in sound financial management, budget preparation and delivery.

Being a Christian organisation, the successful candidate will need to demonstrate a Christian faith, and commitment to the Christian Aims and Purposes of the YMCA with an ability to provide Christian leadership in line with the YMCA Ethos Statement.

For more information about this opportunity and for a Job Pack (including the Ethos Statement), please contact Hooray Recruitment via the apply button.

Applications for this position will close on the 31st March 2020 with interviews to be arranged for shortlisted candidates in the weeks following.

To be fair to all interested parties, it has been agreed that all applications must come via HOORAY Recruitment. Any applications via other routes (including directly to YMCA) will be immediately forwarded to us, but may be missed so to avoid any disappointment please follow the process above.

We promise to respond to every application that is received.
