Reports to: Membership Engagement Manager (MEM)

Salary: £26,500 rising to £28,000 upon successful completion of probation period.

Location: We will strongly prefer candidates who can be based in our East London HQ

Contract: Permanent with 6 months’ probation

Humanists International is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Grants & Development Officer to join our Growth & Development team.

Since 2017 Humanists International has been running a Growth & Development Plan with the main goal of supporting our 170+ Members and Associates around the world. The tasks attached to the G&D Plan are various and diverse, therefore this position is suited to someone who is creative, flexible and with a wide set of skills. 

This year we are increasing the number and amount of funding we make available through grants: humanists.international/growth-and-development. Therefore we require a Grants and Development Officer to help us implement a robust process for administration and monitoring and development.

The successful applicant will join a small, dedicated and hardworking team based mainly in London and will work under the management of our Membership Engagement Manager. The successful applicant will contribute to Humanists International’s G&D Plan via the following tasks:

  • Management of the grants scheme - open of the application process, evaluation of the applications, award of grants, monitor and report of the projects.

  • Identifying new fund development opportunities and apply for grants with Governments and other national and international grant making bodies.

  • Support the MEM in events management (General Assembly, Café Humaniste, training and fundraising events, etc.)

  • Provide support and advice to our Members, Associates and Individual Supporters.

  • Support the MEM in the creation of social media content (posts, info-graphics, videos, etc.) 

  • Keep an updated and detailed database of contacts.

  • Providing reports, stats and other updates to the MEM, the CEO and the Board.

  • Attending and speaking at public events and conferences.

  • Any other reasonable duties as requested.

Person specification:

Essential

  • Excellent general IT skills (Google Drive, Google Sheets, Gmail, Wordpress etc.)

  • Grant management skills. Basic understanding of budgeting and financial reporting would be an asset.

  • Experience in the charity fundraising sector writing winning, technical and high-quality grant proposals, working with key institutional and government donors and identifying partnerships and funding leads.

  • Work or voluntary experience in any NGO or charity, especially if at the international level.

  • Demonstrated ability to convey messages and to build strong relationships with members and stakeholders.

  • Excellent writing skills and an excellent command of English. Other languages (especially Arabic, Spanish, Russian, Hindi or French) would be an asset.

  • Masters degree in International Development, Project Management, Human Rights, Philosophy, Political Science or any other related field. Or a Bachelor's degree with significant experience.

  • Experience of dealing with members and supporters.

  • Ability to synthesise complex information and communicate it effectively to specialist and non-specialist audiences.

  • Excellent analytical skills.

  • Excellent time management skills. Well-organised, efficient and able to work independently.

Desired

  • Experience or knowledge of the following programs would be an asset:

    • Adobe Indesign, Adobe Illustrator or similar

    • Adobe Premiere or similar

    • CiViCRM or any other Customer Relationship Management software

  • Activism in a local or national humanist organization

  • Experience or knowledge of humanism, and the role of humanist organisations. 

  • Excellent understanding of, and sympathy with, the philosophy and policies of Humanists International.

  • A good knowledge of other international NGOs and their role and scope.

  • A clear and convincing communicator.
