Job description

This is an exciting time to join I CAN. We are seeking an experienced Speech and Language Therapist on a fixed term & part-time basis, to work for I CAN towards the delivery of a new project based in the London Borough of Wandsworth – the Nursery Inclusion Project @ Albemarle ([email protected]). The project aims to develop a sustainable model of effective setting support for all children’s SLC across universal, targeted and specialist levels. Children will develop their communication skills to enable them to transition to school more easily and those presenting with emerging social, emotional and mental health needs will be supported by holistic approaches within their settings. A key element of the project will be to evaluate the model and contribute to recommendations for sustainable approaches.

The focus of the work will be in partnership with five settings in the Putney and Roehampton area with project support provided in house by I CAN. You will be managed by I CAN’s [email protected] project lead.

The successful candidate will be able to access the settings in Putney/Roehampton and be able to show demonstrable evidence of:

  • At least 4 years’ experience as a Speech and Language Therapist, ideally within Early Years
  • An interest in working with families, whole setting development and evaluation
  • Registration with HCPC and RCSLT.
  • The ability to travel to settings, as and when required. I CAN works within the government’s Covid-19 guidelines

The successful candidate must have a DBS Enhanced Check.

I CAN is the children’s communication charity and our vision is a world where all children have the communication skills they need to fulfil their potential. Serving children and families for 130 years, I CAN today consists of two special schools, Meath School (Surrey) and Dawn House School (East Midlands); a social enterprise that develops and distributes a wide range of materials, training packages and interventions across the nation; the I CAN Help portfolio of information and advice for parents, carers and practitioners; and a significant project portfolio developing / evaluating different approaches to supporting children with speech, language and communication needs. I CAN is also the host for The Communication Consortium of 36 organisations in the field of children’s communication. I CAN’s mission is that no child should be left out or left behind because of a difficulty speaking or understanding.

Does this sound like you? We would love to hear from you if that is the case.

Candidates are encouraged to apply early as shortlisting will happen whilst the advert is live as we are keen to fill this opportunity quickly. To apply, please submit your up to date CV and a covering letter addressing how why you would like to work with I CAN and how you meet the person specification by 17:00 on 12th October 2020. Interviews will take place on 20th October 2020.
