Job description

Independent Age works to ensure that as we grow older, we all have the opportunity to live well with dignity, choice and purpose. To achieve this we provide information, advice and connection services for older people; campaign on the issues that matter most to them around health and care, poverty and loneliness and provide capacity building support to others working in the sector.

This is an exciting time to join the charity as we embark on our new ambitious strategy for 2021 – 2023 and increase our profile, impact and reach so more people can live a happy, connected and purposeful later life.

There has never been a more important time to campaign for the rights of people in later life who are experiencing inequalities and discrimination to ensure that everyone can live a happy, connected, and purposeful later life. As people age, they are often let down by the systems in place to support them. Whether they struggle to manage health and care needs or to access financial help, many older people and their families miss out on support when they need it most. Our campaigns are grounded in the experience of people who have been on the receiving end of these broken systems, and our team mobilises public support to ensure solutions are found and implemented across the country so that no-one feels ignored, isolated and marginalised.

We are seeking a national Campaigner who is highly motivated and strategic, with strong communication skills, with experience of supporting participation in campaign activity. Although experience within the charity sector would be an advantage, we would welcome your application if you have experience in campaigns, good project management skills and a real passion for making positive change and improving life for people as they grow older.

Working in the Policy and Influencing team the Campaigner will have a strong understanding of how national campaigns can influence decision makers, to create positive change. With the ability to write content for a range of platforms and audiences, you will be able to translate complex ideas into simple messages, creating engaging activities that people will want to take part in. You will also be able to work independently, prioritise effectively and meet deadlines whilst building strong working relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.

Independent Age is committed to safeguarding and follow Safer Recruitment practices to ensure we are safeguarding those we work with. We therefore ask that you supply your full work history with explanations for any gaps in the application documents you submit and if offered the post, we will require two employment references including your current or most recent employer.

We are passionate about equity, diversity and inclusion.  We celebrate diversity and champion the differences and nuances which make each and every one of us unique, creating an inclusive environment where we can all be ourselves.

As well as a competitive salary we offer 28 days annual leave plus public holidays, a generous pension scheme with life assurance, learning and development opportunities, season ticket loans, a cycle to work scheme and an employee assistance programme. Colleagues based at our London Office are offered hybrid working and have the opportunity to work from home on days when they are not required to be in the office.

To apply, please visit our website to submit a cover letter detailing how your skills and experience meet the criteria within the Job Description and Person Specification, along with your CV.
