Job description

We are looking to recruit a Head of Communications and Engagement to join our friendly team. This is a new post which will underpin the continued strategic development of Communications, Education and Engagement within FIGO; with greater synergy across the previously separate functions of Communication and Membership.   As the most senior communications and engagement staff member, the successful applicant will work with the Federation’s Chief Executive, Trustees (specifically the Vice President and President Elect) and Senior Leadership Team to provide strategic engagement and communications lead, ensuring that the Federation’s vision for the development of all educational activities, strategy and projects are well understood and aligned.

This is a fixed term appointment (until September 2022) subject to annual performance review.

The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience:

General and professional education 

Essential

  • Degree at Bachelors level (or equivalent)

Desirable

  • Membership of relevant professional body

  • Postgraduate or equivalent e.g. Medical Science, Communications, Media Studies, Public Relations or similar

Knowledge and experience

Essential

  • Experience of working within a membership organisation

  • Significant communication experience (preferably within a membership organisation or ‘not for profit’ / Third Sector organisation)

  • Experience of leading and managing a comprehensive website

  • Significant experience or working at management level with proven track record of efficient and effective management of resources, including the planning and co- ordination of staffing and budgetary resources

  • Experience of marketing and brand awareness to help build a stronger recognition of the organisation to build confidence with our stakeholders, and enhance the reputation of FIGO

  • Outstanding levels of creativity, including excellent writing and proof reading skills, across multiple platforms and media and for array of different audiences both internal and external.

  • Excellent IT skills in order to communicate effectively and efficiently

  • Knowledge of social media and how to utilise to maximise communication and engagement strength

Desirable

  • A significant and sustained personal track record of success in developing and leading high-profile creative initiatives (utilising a variety of media including digital and social media) within the communications, events and/or public affairs environment

  • In-depth professional knowledge across a number of disciplines (i.e., communications engagement, marketing, staff management, inclusion, third sector gained over an extended period of time

  • Prepared to be flexible to meet the requirements of the post which may include working outside of normal office hours when required

  • Confident use of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel)

  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail

  • Proven ability to work with a diverse and cross-cultural range of stakeholders

  • Flexible and creative problem solver

  • Interest in women’s / public health initiatives

  • Experience of working with a broad and diverse range stakeholders.

     

Desirable

  • Languages particularly Spanish or French

  • Willingness to participate in international travel as required and if deemed appropriate
