IPSEA is recruiting a Legal Team Member to join our existing Legal Team of five. The role involves training and supporting IPSEA’s volunteers and delivering a range of legal training to parents, professionals and volunteers.
IPSEA is a national charity providing free legally-based independent information, advice and support to the families of children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). IPSEA is small, but influential, and provides a unique range of specialist services to ensure that families are empowered to secure the right education for their child.
Our advice and information services, which are delivered by a network of around 150 highly-trained volunteers, include two helplines and a Tribunal Support Service which provides casework support for families who need assistance with preparing and presenting their cases at Tribunal.
Our Legal Team also develop and deliver a range of training to parents/carers, schools, support groups, local authorities and other organisations in order to increase their knowledge and understanding of the SEND law framework.
IPSEA is at the forefront on policy issues relating to SEND. We use the information and evidence captured through our training and advice services to influence policy at both a local and national level, and we have been instrumental in shaping law and policy in the field of special educational needs and disability.
This position calls for someone with a legal qualification or experience of providing legal advice in the area of SEND law. A team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills, you should also be able to work autonomously as this role is likely to be predominantly home-based.
