About Jimmy’s Cambridge
Jimmy’s Cambridge is one of Cambridge's leading charities supporting people on their journey out of homelessness. We provide both support and accommodation, being the first place people come into after they have found themselves sleeping rough. We can then provide interim accommodation in our new 451 residence, or in our shared houses or modular homes, backed up with a wide range of support to help people move towards independence and more sustainable accommodation.
Our 451 service is changing, and this exciting new role is an opportunity to join a dynamic and important service from the beginning. The brand-new service comprises a 9-bed residence offering supported accommodation for people who have been experiencing homelessness, alongside a new day service for non-residents. People will have a range of complex and enduring needs, including mental ill-health, substance misuse, offending and repeated experiences of rough sleeping.
In this role you will be working with colleagues and residents to ensure that the service operates to the highest standards, 24/7. You will be part of a committed and person-centred team, one of around 10 new Support Workers, supporting residents and day service users, which might include maintaining their accommodation, helping people address their long-standing support needs, focusing on harm minimisation, and recovery when people are ready.
You will be someone with previous experience of working or volunteering to support vulnerable adults, or an understanding or awareness of this through life experiences. You will also be able to show your commitment to understanding the effect someone’s past experiences have on who they are today. You will appreciate the importance of treating everyone as an individual. You will also have some understanding of homelessness, substance misuse and mental health.
With good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly, you will also have a commitment to upholding professional boundaries. Honesty, respect, reliability and a non-judgemental approach combined with the ability to deal with challenging behaviour in a non-confrontational way are all essential. You will be a flexible decision maker and a good relationship builder.
We welcome applicants from people from a wide variety of experiences who meet the minimum requirements set out in the Person Specification, and we will provide training.
We have part time hours from around 14 hours to 27 hours per week average, with the flexibility to work additional shifts to cover leave at either this new accommodation or our emergency accommodation on East Road.
