Background:

Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust is the UK's only charity dedicated to those affected by cervical cancer and cervical abnormalities. The charity was established in 1999 by James Maxwell following the death of his wife Jo, aged 40, from cervical cancer.

Since then we have provided advice and support to thousands of women and their families.

We offer a range of online and face to face support and information including: information materials, a Helpline, online forum, local support groups and an Ask the Expert service. Cervical cancer is the most common cancer amongst young women in the UK and Europe.

Two women a day in the UK will die from cervical cancer whilst each year around 3,000 women are newly diagnosed. In addition, some 220,000 a year are told they may have a cervical abnormality that might require treatment. Thanks to the NHS Cervical Screening and HPV vaccination programmes cervical cancer is a largely preventable disease. However, for those affected, the impact of cancer on a woman's life and that of her family cannot be overstated.

This is an exciting time to join the charity. In recent years awareness of our work and cervical cancer has grown significantly with annual income from £288k to £1.75m. The staff team has also significantly grown to 20 enabling us to reach more women than ever before.

Over the past few years our work has been recognised a number of times including winning a prestigious GSK IMPACT Award, Best Communications Campaign at the Third Sector Excellence Awards and a Plain English Osborne Memorial Award for our website, we have also achieved Investing in Volunteers accreditation.

Overview of the role

Our long term vision is for cervical cancer to be eradicated and until then that no woman that is diagnosed goes without the support she needs. The charity has set out a new and ambitious five year vision, and this will require significant growth in income to allow us to greatly extend our information and support programmes.

And that’s why this brand new role is so key. We have gained positive support and built relationships with a range of companies including a 3 year campaign with Sainsbury’s, Roche, GSK, Pelican and a number of others. However, we believe we have achieved the ‘tip of an iceberg’ and the potential for raising funds from companies is significant.

The Corporate Relationships Manager will build on this potential through managing overall growth of corporate support in order to help the charity secure the income needed to achieve sustainable growth. The post holder will be responsible for taking the lead on developing the corporate funding portfolio to secure income and support from new and existing funders.

You'll be building relationships with current funders and developing new ones, writing applications, networking at a strategic level and providing first class stewardship to a range of funders. You'll need a track record of raising significant funds from the corporate sector, have excellent communication skills and an ability to assess impact, costs and added value.

This post requires someone who has extensive experience in generating income from the corporate sector. This role is integral to the development of the charity and so is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced, resourceful, ambitious and hardworking individual.

Overall purpose of the role

To develop and implement a strategy to grow sustainable income from the corporate sector. Responsible for contributing to and implementing the Corporate Fundraising strategy to generate income and help to develop profitable partnerships with corporate supporters that both raise significant funds and deliver on the charity’s s vision and strategic goals.

  • To lead and manage Corporate Partnerships to maximise income and meet financial targets.
  • To build a portfolio of high-value partnerships, ensuring that corporate supporters achieve their maximum potential support through all fundraising areas including marketing, events, employee involvement, corporate responsibility, gifts in kind and sponsorship.
  • To contribute, as appropriate, to the development and successful implementation of fundraising initiatives

Key tasks and responsibilities

  • Maximise voluntary income from existing and potential new corporate partners through building strong relationships and high standards of account management
  • Negotiate, influence and cultivate relationships with existing and potential corporate partnerships, with an aim of attracting long-term commitments to the organisation
  • Take key role in writing and delivering the overall Corporate fundraising strategy
  • Identify opportunities for introductions to potential funders through networking with key decision makers
  • To have an understanding of and commitment to the values of the charity
  • To be responsible for agreeing and successfully meeting targets in corporate fundraising
  • To develop and maintain personal relationships with contacts in corporate partners maximising direct income opportunities and other forms of support
  • To explore new ways to develop and cultivate corporate partnerships
  • To manage the development and implementation of annual plans and budgets
  • To analyse all aspects of Corporate Partnerships performance reporting as required and utilising the results to improve practice
  • To plan, control and monitor expenditure as appropriate and to manage income against targets, KPI’s and provide regular revised projections as required
  • Keep up to date with and research and monitor new developments/funding opportunities, and sector trends
  • To keep up to date and comply with fundraising, data protection and other relevant legislation and codes of practice and good standards
  • Use practical and desk based research to ensure existing and new corporate supporters remain engaged with the work of the charity through the use of tailored, innovative and exciting fundraising proposals
  • Ensure all corporate partners are kept informed of the work and achievements of the charity
  • Being the main contact for all corporate fundraising activities
  • Work alongside the Head of Fundraising and Chief Executive to develop and manage key supporter relationships, sharing information and leads, build new donor relationships and maintain current relationships through appropriate means e.g. reporting, meetings, networking and communications
  • Prepare financial reports as and when required
  • Develop effective working relationships with senior management, trustees and senior level volunteers in order to maximise their contribution to the success of the corporate fundraising programme
  • Work with colleagues across the organisation to develop a range of into fundable and compelling applications ensuring they meet funder requirements and are backed up with clear and detailed budgets
  • Establish tools and processes to monitor and evaluate activity and ensure funder reports are delivered within deadlines, and in line with funder requirements
  • Take responsibility for ensuring that full records from corporate activity (including research, asks, mailings, updates, communications and income), are maintained on the charity’s database and other internal systems
  • To attend and contribute to team meetings and work closely with colleagues in order to understand their funding needs.
  • Where appropriate represent the charity at external events
  • Occasionally be asked to work outside of office hours or travel outside of London

Person specification

Essential

  • Experience and/or thorough understanding of the commercial sector
  • Ability to demonstrate a successful track record in sales, marketing or corporate fundraising
  • Experience of delivering and managing budgets
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Ability to present at senior level
  • Demonstrable experience of meeting personal and team income targets and other KPIs
  • Excellent relationship management skills, with proven ability to build and develop relationships with a variety of funders
  • Demonstrable experience of both successful face to face solicitation and written fundraising proposals
  • Experience of managing a range of corporate accounts on a range of sizes and levels
  • Experience of developing and implementing successful fundraising strategies
  • Outstanding written communication skills, with proven ability to write high quality proposals and reports
  • Excellent research skills with proven ability to research potential donors and identify new opportunities
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with ability to inspire, influence and negotiate at senior level
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Proven ability to work cross organisationally to develop projects and package up compelling cases for support
  • Highly numerate with proven ability to construct and develop project budgets and to monitor and report on income and expenditure, and other key metrics
  • Proactive and resourceful with ability to work on an individual basis & take ownership of their area
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail with ability to manage and meet multiple deadlines
  • Highly IT literate with experience using Word, Excel and PowerPoint, web based research tools and CRM databases
  • Ability to travel and to attend evening meetings, conferences as appropriate to the needs of the job

Desirable

  • Experience securing funds from corporates or major donors
  • Experience of fundraising for women’s health / cancer related causes
  • Experience of working with senior volunteers and trustees
  • A thorough understanding of fundraising in the corporate sector
