Justice Studio is an energetic organisation looking for an important senior research colleague. Since our establishment in May 2011 we have undertaken over 100 consultancy and research projects on social justice issues in the UK and internationally.
Based in London, our clients are governments, charitable and not-for-profit organisations, and social enterprises that are striving to promote global social equality. Our work for them spans strategy, evaluation and research. Through our work we strive to ensure the voices of marginalised groups are heard. Job title: Senior Researcher/Evaluation Lead
Salary Band: £35,000 – £45,000 per annum pro rata for part time
Hours: Full or part time and flexible working available

Reports to: Managing Director
Line managing responsibilities: Researchers.
Anticipated Start Date: June 2021
As Justice Studio’s senior researcher and evaluation lead you will be responsible for our portfolio of research and evaluation projects. You will play a key part in obtaining, designing and leading our research and evaluation work in the UK and internationally. Committed to social justice and passionate about the work we undertake, you will play a key role in our growing organisation.
- Lead Justice Studio’s research and evaluation projects in the UK and internationally.
- Design and lead research and evaluation proposals for grants and commercial contracts in the UK and internationally, including management of proposal writing teams to ensure that members are delivering high-quality, winning proposals, within designated timeframes, whilst effectively coordinating workloads.
- Develop and design appropriate and robust research and evaluation methodologies including innovative practices such as design thinking, ethnography, participatory methods and co-creation of research and evaluation.
- Design data collection tools for a range of large and small research projects.
- Carry out fieldwork including qualitative interviews and focus groups, in the UK and internationally
- Keep abreast of new research and evaluation techniques, trends and methodologies.
- Write clear and accessible research reports using the findings from a mixture of quantitative, qualitative and other innovative data collections.
- Develop effective and collaborative working relationships with key clients in our research and evaluation work.
- Keep abreast of key social justice research and policy trends and play an active role in disseminating thought pieces and blogs externally as well as increasing our internal knowledge and understanding.
- Formulate strategies, new directions, and techniques to grow our research knowledge base and utilise networks to advance successful new research and evaluation opportunities.
- Work proactively within a small team and be prepared to take on additional tasks when needed.
- Contribute ideas to our organisation’s strategy and play an important part in our growth.
The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities needed to perform the role:
- Masters degree or PhD in the social sciences or related fields.
- Research specialism in one or more of the following fields: child and social protection; criminal justice; disability; gender, masculinities, and women’s rights; housing and homelessness; race and ethnic minority discrimination; older people and social care.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in quantitative, qualitative, and participatory research methods.
- Proven experience of designing and conducting mixed method evaluations and using a range of techniques.
- Relevant experience of research grant applications including designing and leading submissions and bid teams.
- Interest in research in both the UK and international contexts and willingness to work overseas.
- Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to build and manage working relationships with clients, partners, and technical experts.
- Excellent writing and reporting skills
- Well-developed cultural and political sensitivity
- Verbal and written fluency in the English language (essential)
- Competent Word, Excel and, ideally, SPSS skills.
- UK work authorisation required.
- Willingness to undertake mandatory DBS check
