Job Description

Art Against Knives run’s community nail bars for young women. The act of painting a young women’s nails allows us to build trusted relationships, enabling young women to come forward about major problems they experience, including abuse. We bring specialist support to them - in environments that are accessible, comfortable and part of everyday community life.

Our aim is to ensure fewer victims reach crisis point by intervening early; instilling confidence to report; and ensuring that young people receive the right services at the right time. The Young Person’s Advocate is key to providing this function; you will work in partnership with our delivery teams to ensure we’re intervening early and providing high quality support to young women, and to develop and implement a new case management system. You will work independently within this framework to provide dedicated support to a cohort of young women at risk of any form of violence. The role is about working directly with young women and girls (aged 10-25) and may include work with young men.

You will be skilled in risk management and safety planning, remaining calm in a crisis and in handling sensitive information on a daily basis. Experience of direct work with young female survivors of domestic abuse, of supporting young women and girls involved with Children’s Social Care, substance misuse, housing and mental health agencies, and of working within safeguarding procedures is essential for this post, as is the need to adopt and promote a strong partnership approach to service provision.

The postholder will be based at multiple community spaces across Barnet and at our office in Central London. There will be an element of project work / delivery in relation to the specialism of the post; because of this you will need to be available to access weekly projects in Barnet during session hours (currently 3 days per week, 11am-7pm)
