KERB is a business that powers other businesses. We focus on the incubation and growth of innovative, independent food businesses. We run brilliant street food markets, workshops, consultancy, bars, a food hall in Central London and have developed a growing, successful corporate catering company, KERB Events Limited.

Lockdown hit us hard, but we picked ourselves up and are doubling down and coming back harder - across all areas of our business. As we begin a new chapter, we’re looking for an experienced Managing Director to head up our Social Enterprise arm of the business who can understand our vision and go above and beyond to dynamically deliver it.  


The Managing Director for KERB’s Social Enterprise will head up a new department within the company, overseeing a social outreach program focusing on developing strong, long-lasting pathways into food and hospitality. The successful candidate will secure the investment required to deliver high performing and financially viable educational programmes, ensuring that this work is tailored to the needs of Londoners looking to take their first leap into the world of food.  The candidate will be tasked with achieving measurable outcomes that are aligned to the Social Enterprise’s strategy and programme of work, spanning a range of education tools for existing operators, and focusing on exciting, future-facing new projects encouraging wider diversity of opportunity across the industry The MD will be able to confidently lead and collaborate closely with our senior managers and delivery team to ensure the smooth running of the Social Enterprise. They will work closely with the Board of Directors to oversee all strategic priorities, company development, implementation and planning. Most importantly, the MD will crave to be part of a company-wide transformation project, having the ability to promote KERB values throughout. The successful candidate will be articulate, have experience in securing public and private sector income and have experience/knowledge of the third sector.


  • Providing senior management, leadership and support to a team. You’re able to empower, delegate and genuinely invest in their growth by setting and monitoring clear performance targets.

  • Past experience of building said team.

  • Collate, create and clearly pitch all relevant data, strategies and potential campaigns to the Board/Director/Stakeholders.

  • Be at ease with managing multiple projects simultaneously in this fast paced environment.

  • You can leverage support through developing strategic partnerships and using your professional/personal network.

  • Experience of the infrastructure organisations that support social enterprise, including local authorities, other statutory organisations.

  • Support the executive board in achieving the strategic vision of the organisation.

  • Stay on top of relevant trends, able to identify new business opportunities and maximise income potential.

  • Analysing financial viability, fundraising, collaborating and event management.

  • Developing and implementing a full fundraising programme and securing solid funding streams.

  • When needed, you’re able to collaborate in effective marketing, communications and engagement strategies.

  • Being POC for implementing relevant legal and regulatory compliance.


  • Experience of managing projects and deliverables within a social enterprise environment (Essential)

  • Unrivalled knowledge of the London food scene (Essential)

  • An interest in the independent food industry and wider food scene of London (Essential)

  • Experience working in or with independent food businesses (Desirable)

  • Someone who has been to KERB markets and/or events, knows KERB and loves KERB, and who is passionate about working with small businesses to help make the city a better and more delicious place to live

  • 2+ years experience in a similar, strategic leadership role

  • Demonstrable experience of managing budgets and delivering business improvements, including commercial activity

  • Build and manage relationships with external stakeholders.

  • A sound financial understanding, including experience of financial planning and managing budgets.

  • Leadership and management experience is essential.

  • Past experience of operational risk management.

  • Board level experience and understanding of third sector governance.

  • Phenomenal communicational skills, with strong written and verbal communication, able to take on our brand’s tone with ease.

  • Positive and flexible attitude with the ability to problem solve and think laterally.

  • Passionate about connecting, creating positive environments and making people happy through new projects, programmes and ideas.
