Are you looking for a job with a sense of belonging? We’re looking for people from all walks of life to join our friendly and lively community of people with and without learning disabilities based in South London.
Come and join us at L’Arche London as an Assistant supporting community members with learning disabilities in their daily lives.
We are part of a network of 150 L’Arche communities across the world, built on the values of welcome, respect and equality. Our team of Support Assistants range from former teachers and bankers to musicians and carpenters. People usually come to L'Arche because they are looking for a career break, a change of pace or a job with purpose. This is an opportunity to find community in the capital and develop your interpersonal skills in a supportive environment. Every day in this role is different as you support people with learning disabilities as equals, helping them with domestic tasks, personal care and to access activities at home and in the local area such as art, music and gardening.
Previous experience supporting people with learning disabilities is not required as we will provide you with all the practical training you will need including the Care Certificate qualification. Our personal development programme offers opportunities for reflection, mentoring and growth for everyone in our community. Benefits include 30 paid days holiday a year, a pension, life insurance and an Employee Assistance Programme providing free confidential well-being support including counselling. We also offer opportunities to study for QCF qualifications and to participate in our nationwide leadership programme. Pre-COVID there were opportunities to travel both in the UK and internationally to visit other L’Arche communities which we hope will be possible again soon.
We are looking for people to join us for an initial minimum commitment of one year with the opportunity to renew. (Many of our team come for one year, and then choose to stay for 2, 3, 5, 10 or even 30 more!)
We were founded over 40 years ago from a liberal Christian theology. Today our community is a diverse and inclusive team of all faiths and none, a huge range of nationalities, genders and sexualities. As Richard, one of our community members with a learning disability always says: “At L’Arche there is always room at the table.”
