Are you a policy expert with experience in translating academic research in to public policy?

We are looking for a new Policy Engagement Manager to join the Lancet Countdown: Tracking Progress on Health and Climate Change.

The appointee will join the Executive team of the Lancet Countdown, an independent, international and multi-disciplinary research collaboration based out of the Institute for Global Health, University College London. The collaboration brings together 35 academic and UN Institutions to track how climate change is affecting human health, and how the world is responding.

The successful candidate will join the Lancet Countdown in central London, working with the collaboration’s co-chairs: Professor Anthony Costello, Peng Gong, Hugh Montgomery and its Executive Director.

The post is available immediately to 31 July 2023, in the first instance, and is open to UK/EU applicants.

Responsibilities

The post-holder will be responsible for coordinating the Lancet Countdown’s outreach to policymakers in key countries in the national and international public health community.

They will develop and implement a policy engagement strategy to ensure that the Lancet Countdown’s academic outputs are seen, understood, and acted upon by national policymakers.

They will work with local medical and health associations to develop national policy briefs and other collateral associated with the global indicator report, and manage the Lancet Countdown’s network of academic experts, institutions to support the collaboration’s policy outreach ambitions.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor’s level degree or equivalent skills and experience.
  • Experience in engaging with national or global policy processes, either internally as a political aid, or externally from an academic institution, think tank or NGO.
  • The ability to summarise complex scientific outputs for policymakers in the form of policy briefs and other collateral.
  • Experience in developing and implementing policy outreach and engagement strategies that have delivered tangible policy outcomes.
  • Experience of managing, planning and running events and outputs for work programmes or campaigns.
  • Excellent communication, both spoken and written English, with close attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and diplomacy skills, and familiarity in engaging with national policymakers at any level of seniority.

We are looking for someone with a willingness to travel (approx. 1-4 weeks per annum), and participate in conference calls outside of normal working hours (1-3 hours per week) to connect with other timezones.
