Job description


We are looking for an exceptional Adult Education Coordinator to join our team and help to transform the way we teach and improve the skills and confidence of our audiences and communities. The successful candidate will be capable of coordinating and delivering an engaging face-to-face (when safe to do so) and online learning programme, information sessions and workshops.

Latin American House (LAH) provides a range of services including specialist advice and information, children and adult education and cultural activities and events. Our charitable work focuses on providing accessible, efficient and practical support to disadvantaged Latin Americans and other communities in greater London and beyond. It is imperative that you are a good or intermediate Spanish speaker.


The Position

The Adult Education Coordinator will be a motivated key member of the team, enhancing the adult education provision that will welcome a wide range of audiences. The candidate will play a key role in our pursuit of creating social cohesion and community integration, reaching, engaging with and supporting disadvantaged and vulnerable Latin Americans, Portuguese and Spanish speakers in Greater London and the UK.

You will have hands-on experience creating and designing adult educational content. You will oversee the running of LAH’s work with adults, and manage the delivery of the programme. In addition to excellent communication and teaching skills, you will have the ability and willingness to test, improve and share your knowledge. You will be a self-starter who can shape the way LAH teaches and helps our communities, leading LAH Adult Education provision and ensuring that we deliver excellent customer service at all times.

The position will be responsible for delivering both charitable and income generating activities and services. Therefore experience in a commercial institution may be a plus.

The key areas of responsibility are:

  • ●  To develop, implement and coordinate a blended delivery of the LAH Adult Education Programme, focusing on digital skills, online delivery and ways to increase digital access.

  • ●  To improve the career prospects and job opportunities of participants

  • ●  To create and source good quality education content for our website

  • ●  To plan for the gradual reintroduction of face-to-face provision when safe to do so.

  • ●  To proactively seek out and maintain positive, consistent and effective relationships

    with a range of internal and external services and providers.

  • ●  To line manage a small team of volunteers who will support the Coordinator to

    deliver the programme.

Developing and implementing LAH Adult Education Programme

  • ●  To create accessible, useful, high quality adult educational activities for our audiences supporting them to achieve their potential and meeting LAH objectives.

  • ●  To create, design and manage an inclusive curriculum for the next two years.

  • ●  To identify opportunities for adult learners to progress through external providers

    and partnerships.

  • ●  To create a learner-centred and participatory methodology and innovative

    pedagogical approaches in the internet age.

  • ●  To develop appropriate content to support all digital classes and sessions.

  • ●  To lead in scheduling, timetabling and marketing (hard copy and digital) of courses,

    including production of course guides, website updates, and handling course

    enquiries from current and prospective learners and organisations.

  • ●  To carry out observations of teaching, learning and assess and report accordingly.

    Partnership Working

  • ●  To maintain , strengthen and increase the number of partners to support delivery of courses including funders and statutory agencies.

  • ●  To analyse, monitor and report regularly on numbers, performance, outcomes and impact and create actionable insight for continuous improvement.

  • ●  To work with the Director and all the teams at LAH.

  • ●  To line manage and develop a small team of volunteers.

    Person Specification Experience


  • ●  At least three years experience in working with adults in educational settings.

  • ●  Passionate about digital, technology and technological developments.

  • ●  Collaborative team worker.

  • ●  Autonomous, confident and self-starter with a can-do attitude and approach.

  • ●  Strong project management and organisational skills.


  • ●  Experience working in the charity and VCS, and passionate about social change.

  • ●  Knowledge of the challenges faced by the Latin American communities in the UK.

  • ●  Basic knowledge of Portuguese.


  • ●  Bilingual English-Spanish speaker, or Portuguese-English speaker with advanced Spanish language skills.

  • ●  Highly literate and numerate, including G Suite and relevant teaching platforms and online tools.

  • ●  Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.

  • ●  Ability to prioritise work.

  • ●  Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.

  • ●  Ability and willingness to learn and apply new skills quickly.

    About Latin American House

    We work for the integration, social inclusion and wellbeing of Latin American and other Spanish and Portuguese-speaking migrants, as well as other communities in our local neighbourhood. Our aims are to improve their lives, to provide a local Community Centre and to promote the rich diversity of Latin American cultures. We are expanding our organisation and diversifying our income streams in order to provide a better and more comprehensive service to our beneficiaries. We are a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee.

    Our services include:

    • Legal and Social Welfare Advice, providing specialist advice on immigration, as well as general information on benefits and employment. In 2019 we also started a EU Settlement Scheme project to support disadvantaged and at-risk Latin Americans and their families.

    • Children’s Education, which currently consists of our bilingual Menchú Nursery and the Spanish Saturday School for children from 5 to 11 years old.

    • Adult Community Learning, in partnership with local authorities, colleges and recognised education organisations, as well as our own volunteers. We provide practical adult education for Latin Americans and local residents.

    • Community Centre, LAH is a well-established centre where people can come for activities, information and orientation.

    • Culture - promoting and showcasing Latin American cultures, for people of all ages and backgrounds. From 2019 there is a dedicated culture coordinator.

    The last three years have been of expansion and growth and we have had an increasing number of beneficiaries, clients and visitors reaching our organisation.
