Day One is a linked charity of Leeds Cares dedicated to supporting patients and their families affected by major trauma. The charity was established in 2014 by a group of major trauma patients and their trauma surgeon. Through the provision of emotional and practical support the charity aims to limit the impact of major trauma on patients and families and aid recovery and adjustment, enabling patients and their family to lead fulfilling lives following injury.
Day One currently supports patients and their families treated at the regional Major Trauma Centre at the Leeds General Infirmary (part of the Leeds Teaching Hospital Trust) as well as across the West Yorkshire Trauma Network. Day One’s plans include expansion beyond Leeds Teaching Hospital Trust to other major trauma centres enabling the charity to achieve its mission to create a national support network for victims of major trauma, regardless of where the incident or accident takes place.
This is a non-clinical / hands on role, working in partnership with a wide range of individuals and delivery partners. You will play an integral role in providing non-medical support at a critical time and in doing so improve the experience of patients and families impacted by major trauma.
Reporting to the Day One Development Manager, this role is pivotal to providing a comprehensive, holistic assessment of the needs of patients and families. You will coordinate advice, support and signposting within the hospital setting and in the immediate aftermath of major trauma.
We are looking for a strong candidate with a relevant health related education and experience. We are looking for a practical, proactive and self-motivated individual who is able to build relationships and communicate effectively with clinicians, healthcare practitioners, patients and families.
