The Homelessness and Housing Law Specialist Advisor will work alongside our client services teams across England, to prevent and end homelessness for people we support. Providing expert advice, support and advocacy to our staff and members in the most complex cases.
Salary: £38,585 (regions) or £42,746 (London) per annum
Hours: 35 hours per week (open to compressed hours in line with Crisis’ Flexible Working Policy)
Location: To be based in any of the Crisis Skylights in Edinburgh, Newcastle, Liverpool, Birmingham, Oxford, South Wales, Central London, Croydon, or Brent, but with home working as an option in line with Crisis’ Hybrid Working Policy
About the role
We are looking for an expert on homelessness legislation (the Homelessness Reduction Act) and relevant housing legislation to contribute to Crisis’ mission of ending homelessness. You will provide advice and casework covering complex areas of both housing and homelessness legislation to frontline employees working directly with people experiencing homelessness and at risk of homelessness in England. You will be an advocate for our members, by using housing law knowledge to request temporary housing from local authorities, for those who are street homeless. You will have the opportunity to produce housing law briefings, template letters and a toolkit of resources including checklists to support staff when working with beneficiaries.
About you

Demonstrable track record of successfully preventing and relieving people’s homelessness through advocacy and the application of relevant homelessness and housing law, including complex cases such as people with different immigration status.

Expert knowledge of relevant homelessness and housing legislation, including Housing Act 1996 Parts VI and VII, Homelessness Act 2002 Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, Protection for Eviction Act 1977, Landlord and Tenant Act 1985

Knowledge of the issues affecting homeless people and the impact and interaction of welfare and immigration policies on homelessness

Familiarity with local authority housing options services and their processes
You may have experience in, Housing and Homelessness Law, Local Authority Homelessness or Housing Options teams, Advice and advocacy, specialist casework.

We’re looking for an experienced civil litigator to join our small (but mighty!) in-house team at Fish Legal. We use the law to fight pollution and other damage or threats to the water environment.
You’ll work closely with our Head of Practice to provide a responsive, practical, cost-effective service taking civil action on behalf of angler members regarding damage to fisheries.
This is a permanent, full time, remote role that suits a solicitor who’d like to work in an intellectually challenging environment alongside a very passionate and supportive team—although our casework can be demanding, we’re flexible and family-friendly.
What you’ll be doing
· Provide legal advice and representation to member clubs, riparians, and fishery owners in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland
· Conduct litigation, instructing and working with experts and counsel
· Correspond with government agencies and environmental regulators
· Obtain information using Environmental Information and Freedom of Information legislation
· Attend site visits as required
· Take an active role in our internal case management meetings
· Report on your own cases and collaborate on broader Fish Legal litigation
· Work with our external communications team to publicise successful legal actions
· Manage your own legal files with the support of our Legal Administrator
· Comply with all professional regulatory requirements for practising as an in-house solicitor in a membership association
Who you are
· Degree qualified solicitor with 3+ years PQE and a current practicing certificate
· Experienced in representing and advising clients in dispute resolution and litigation, including pre-action and issued claims
· You have a proven ability to build strong, productive internal and external relationships, plus a demonstrable track record of working on successful cases
· You shine autonomously whilst working within a small team and you have a flexible approach—you’ll be happy to manage a full and varied caseload and ready to pivot with changing priorities
· Negotiation and advocacy are some of your strengths alongside your excellent analytical and legal research skills—you also have a good understanding of Civil Procedure Rules
· You know your way around platforms such as Microsoft Office 365 and SharePoint, your written and verbal communication is brilliant, and you’re committed to providing a high standard of member care
· You’re self-assured, confident, capable, and detail-oriented with sound judgement and a proactive attitude—and willing to own your continuous professional development
What will make you stand out
· A passion for healthy waters and fisheries
· Familiarity with relevant environmental legislation and the law relating to sporting rights, an understanding of how the water industry is regulated in the UK, and knowledge of the issues affecting water quality and quantity

About this role
The MENA Death Penalty Caseworker will undertake a range of activities in support of Reprieve’s work on cases of individuals on death row or at risk of the death penalty across the MENA region, including casework and investigations into individual cases and the broader death penalty landscape, support to Reprieve clients, and support to partner organisations and lawyers in the MENA region and beyond.
The MENA Death Penalty Caseworker is an integral member of the MENA Team, and will work closely with the Media, Campaigns and Digital, and UK and US Policy teams, and the Directors and Deputy Directors.
Location and salary
This role is a full-time, permanent contract based in our London office. The annual salary is £40,964 full-time per annum, less any required deductions for income tax and national insurance.
Reprieve operates a hybrid working model and we require staff to work a minimum of 40% per week from the London office, and the rest from home. Your presence is important during core office hours, whether remotely or in the office.

About the role
Central England Law Centre operates busy offices in Coventry and Birmingham from which we provide support to clients seeking support for legal issues ranging from immigration and housing through to employment and health and social care.
This fixed-term role is a pivotal one in supporting our existing billing team, solicitors and caseworkers in the timely and accurate submission of closed client files to the Legal Aid Agency.
The successful candidate will be a natural problem solver, willing and able to work on their own initiative as they collate all the information required to successfully gain financial reimbursement from the Legal Aid Agency. Consistently high levels of attention to detail are a must, as is the ability to work with a wide cross-section of people across the Law Centre.
This is a great entry-level role for somebody with an interest in developing their skills as a cost draftsperson. It is important to understand that this role is an internally-facing one focused on providing a high quality of service to Law Centre staff.This role does not involve direct client contact.
The appointment of the successful candidate will be subject to satisfactory references and a basic DBS check.
Responsibilties
Working alongside the Law Centre’s Billing Process Coordinator, the successful candidate will work on a caseload of files which they will review before submitting to the Legal Aid Agency for payment. In compiling these files, they will:
- Liaise with solicitors and caseworkers across the Law Centre in order to understand the work undertaken on client files and deal with any queries
- Develop an understanding of the requirements of the Legal Aid Agency
- Correspond with the Legal Aid Agency and other parties regarding billing and finance
- Ensuring that matters are compliant on the case management system
- Submit queries to the Legal Aid Agency where required
- Maintain accurate records on Law Centre’s in-house case management system
- Complete all required forms, invoices and evidence are compiled for each closed case
