About the Role
This role leads policy analysis and engagement on social and public policy as it relates to people with disabilities at both national and international levels. It develops and promotes Leonard Cheshire’s policy positions and profile with key UN, multilateral and bilateral international development stakeholders, as well with national government partners in the UK and overseas.
Our policy influencing efforts are firmly rooted in the need for change, and the progress and advancement in our own organisation. Therefore, by 2022, we will have expanded our role as a key player in evidence-informed influencing of policies, laws and practices in the field of economic inclusion, inclusive education and disability inclusive data, working in partnership with organisations of people with disabilities globally and within the UK. We will have also adopted a shift towards policy influencing that fully reflects the rights-based approach, is guided by evidence and ongoing reflection and advancement, and puts people with disabilities and their organisations at the heart of relevant processes.
You will oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of Leonard Cheshire’s international and national (UK wide) policy influencing work, supporting wider activity in our campaigns and public affairs teams. You will have at least 5 years’ experience of engaging with global and national international development actors, including UN agencies, multilateral organisations and bilateral development partners and will know how to influence and achieve policy change. With an appreciation of disability policy and disability inclusion strategies, you will bring experience of engaging with campaigners and other interested individuals through various channels.
You will be able to identify and promote influencing opportunities at global, regional, pan-regional, and national levels. You will be able to analyse and interpret complex information and data as well as drafting and presenting this material to a variety of audiences. You will have excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to prioritise work under pressure. You will be an effective team leader who can work as part of a small and dynamic team.
We seek candidates with a genuine commitment to the values and ethos of Leonard Cheshire.
