About Leonard Cheshire

As a global charity and one of the largest voluntary sector providers of services to disabled people, we believe disabled people should have the freedom to live their lives the way they choose. We believe they should have the opportunity and support to live independently, to contribute economically and to participate fully in society. With 5000 staff and 9000 volunteers, Leonard Cheshire supports nearly 70,000 people in the UK and around the world.

Could you help us to deliver our vision?

About the role

This is an exciting time to join Leonard Cheshire Cymru. In this role you will deliver policy, communications, and research work to support the promotion of our public engagement strategy across Wales. You will work with disabled people and Members of the Senedd to influence public policy, building a society where disabled people are able to live, learn and work as independently as they choose.

No day in Leonard Cheshire is ever the same and there is always a new challenge. A pivotal part of the role is to develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders. You will also prepare briefings and consultation responses, organise public affairs events, prepare press releases, represent Leonard Cheshire Cymru at external engagements, give presentations, manage social media channels, and input into strategic discussions. You will work with wider UK colleagues to identify the nuances of policy positions for Wales and support the development of infographic and video content for Leonard Cheshire’s Welsh social media platforms and policy and campaigns literature.

About you

We are looking for someone passionate to make a difference in the life of disabled people and excited to come onboard. You will be committed to improving choice and opportunity of people with disabilities. You will have excellent organisational skills, with the ability to remain calm under pressure, responding quickly in a fast paced environment. You will have the capacity to rapidly learn information and new skills, and the ability to adapt your communication style to different audiences. You will have knowledge of the political landscape in Wales and an understanding of its key institutions.

What we Offer

  • Fair and competitive pay rates
  • A generous employer contribution to a company pension scheme with additional life cover
  • Substantial annual leave, with the option to buy or sell leave
  • Access to a cash health plan at favourable rates
  • A Comprehensive Employee Assistance Programme

Leonard Cheshire welcomes applications from all sections of the community. We actively encourage applications from people with a disability, supporting where possible, your requirements for reasonable adjustments.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and adults at risk. A satisfactory disclosure check (PVG membership in Scotland) is required for this post. References will be obtained for all roles.

Shortlisting for this role may take place as applications are received. We therefore reserve the right to close this vacancy once suitable candidates have been appointed.
