You will work closely with the Patient Advocacy Director on the development and implementation of campaigns and policy initiatives to improve access to treatments and helping people to live better with their blood cancer. You will deputise for the Director as required, focusing on policy and patient advocacy and help review strategy.
You will be part of the wider growing Patient Advocacy Team with direct line management for four employees whose roles include our annual Blood Cancer Awareness campaign #SpotLeukaemia, education of GPs, pharmacists, opticians and other primary healthcare professionals, health technology appraisals, individual patient advocacy around access to treatment, and access to welfare benefits. You will provide them with support and mentorship.
You will also work closely with the Patient Services Manager who looks after our remote staff who raise awareness of Leukaemia Care's services within hospitals and run drop in advice clinics within hospitals. Their team also looks after our support groups, buddy service, helpline, patient and nurse conferences.
Nationwide travel is a necessary part of this role, particularily London. This will involve representing the charity at external events such as charity coalitions, parliamentary events and conferences. It may also involve occasional travel throughout Europe. The role will require occasional weekend and evening work, with advance notice. In such instances, you are encouraged to either shift your working day or if not possible, you will receive time off in lieu.
