Become the first Community Fundraiser Lead in Lewisham! 

Five local organisations have formed a Lewisham Fundraising Collaboration for a 1-year pilot project. The charities involved have a strong history of collaboration and are keen to explore new partnership opportunities with each other as well as individual bids to strengthen existing work. The hope is that the project will successfully raise funds for Collaboration partners and strengthen smaller local voluntary sector organisations, with the role potentially continuing for future years beyond the initial pilot.

We are looking for an experienced fundraiser with a successful track record and ambition to work in partnership with an exciting new collaboration of local organisations. You will have an excellent understanding of the Lewisham voluntary sector and its challenges and up to date knowledge of funders’ priorities and emerging opportunities. You will have a clear, confident communication style and can proactively build strong relationships with Collaboration partners offering clear funding intelligence to determine prioritising bids. You will be able to manage competing priorities, a varied workload and be able to respond quickly and decisively to new funding opportunities.

CONTEXT

Local organisations have formed a Lewisham Fundraising Collaboration to explore a 1-year pilot project to employ a Community Fundraiser Lead. Most of the charities in the Collaboration have a strong history of existing or previous partnership projects. The role will involve working with the partners on both individual and joint bids within the Collaboration.

Our aim is to maximise benefits of joint working and fundraising expertise for each organisation in the Fundraising Collaboration as well as the wider community and smaller voluntary sector organisations. The Lewisham Fundraising Collaboration will oversee the overall strategy of the pilot project and the postholder will report back on progress but will be line-managed by the Lewisham Local Director.

  • Bellingham Community Project
  • Lewisham Council’s Culture & Community Development Team

 

The Funding Collaboration also consists of the following members:

  • Blueprint For All (formerly Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust) - representing Lewisham BME Network
  • Urban Dandelion CIC - representing Lewisham BME Network

 

PURPOSE OF ROLE

The Community Fundraiser Lead will successfully fundraise for the five organisations in the Funding Collaboration both for individual applications and partnership funding bids which address the needs of Lewisham’s communities. They will also support small organisations by increasing their fundraising capacity. Sharing fundraising insights and data across the Lewisham Fundraising Collaboration this person will be instrumental in identifying the wider voluntary and community sector’s funding needs and maximising investment in viable funding opportunities to build a more sustainable and resilient voluntary sector in Lewisham.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Fundraise for Collaborative organisations

  • Keep an up-to-date list of current and upcoming fundraising opportunities for the Collaboration’s partners and wider sector
  • Identify funding opportunities and proactively work with the Collaboration to determine the most viable applications to invest in
  • Maximise the knowledge, expertise and resources of partner organisations in developing collaborative bids
  • Increase the capacity for co-production in developing proposals
  • Write  bids in partnership with Collaboration members
  • Develop additional relationships that open broader regional funding opportunities, strategic partnerships, skills’ development and knowledge acquisition across the Collaboration and its beneficiaries
  • Build local data resources, both quantitative and qualitative,  that are relevant for the Collaboration and other organisations in Lewisham’s voluntary sector.

 

Support Small Organisations

 

  • Work with Community Development Workers to gather knowledge of services gaps and build capacity for underrepresented sectors including organisations that are BAME led and serve BAME communities
  • Support small organisations with capacity development through increased fundraising: identifying funders and opportunities, training, 1-1 advice surgeries, collaborative work  and grant writing application support
  • Learn about the needs of our communities

 

General

  • Attend and report progress to monthly Funding Collaboration meetings
  • Manage time fairly and efficiently across the Collaboration’s membership
  • Work from partner organisations’ premises  regularly to build relationships with key personnel, understand organisational culture, priorities and ambitions (when viable with Covid-19 restrictions)
  • Contribute data and evidence for the  evaluation of  the pilot

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential Experience

  • Demonstrable track record of successful fundraising experience and bid writing for applications of over  £50,000
  • Experience of working on  complex partnership bids within the community and voluntary sector
  • 5 years experience of working in the voluntary and community sector and strong experience of fundraising
  • 5 years project management experience and proven ability to meet outcome-based targets
  • 5 years experience in representation at strategic level
  • Demonstrable track record of effectively supporting local community groups
  • Experience of working with diverse communities including BAME communities
  • Extensive experience in collaboration, co-production and partnership working
  • Implementing monitoring and evaluation techniques, evaluating and measuring the social impact of projects
  • Establishing and building effective relationships with individuals, groups and statutory bodies
  • Setting up and maintaining systems and procedures

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the local voluntary sector and the current context in terms of COVID-19, priorities and aspirations of  local groups and organisations
  • Strong working knowledge of regional and national funders and their current priorities
