Job Description

Lewisham Toy Library encourages learning through play for 0-8 year olds. We have a large range of toys that are designed to promote learning through play, including an excellent range of toys specially designed for special needs children. We believe the provision of play equipment and opportunities supports children in reaching their potential, enhances quality of life and improves their chances in adulthood.

We also operate the Lewisham Shopmobility service, and are very proud that we meeting the needs of multiple disadvantaged users in the area.

We're looking for somoene who is passionate about mobility, social mobility and learning through play. We promise you the role will be anything other than an easy ride (boring), but hopefully we are on a journey to create London's best toy library - maybe even reinventing the way that toy libraries operate along the way!

We've survived some of the deepest cuts in living memory, and are in comparatively good operational health, although there is still much to be done if we want to reach our goal of being fully self-sustained. We recently moved into the Lewisham Shopping Centre and are enjoying being the only Toy Library in the UK based in such an environment. You will be an important part of helping us continue toward the new era, including an increased focus on sales in the shop, membership retention and fundraising from corporate and private interests.

We want smart people, so we don't want to tell you exactly how to do the job, but as something of a guide to how the role has been done before, we attach the most recent job descripition. In addition to balancing the time required to provide the toy library service, you will need to balance other needs including recruiting and managing volunteers (of which there are already several) and assisting with fundraising opportunities. The role pays the London Living Wage for 18 hours per week.

You'll be supported by an active and (we think!) interesting group of Trustees who would love nothing more than to see the organisation thrive under your management. Please read the Toy Library Manager job description and apply by attaching a CV and sending us a Cover Letter (each of which should be not more than 2 pages).

Get your application in early - We'd like your commencement date to be early in the new year, and we need a chance to get to know you first! First interviews are likely to take place in the second week of December.

Regular opening hours are Wednesday, Friday and Saturday (10am-3pm) and we would be prepared to consider splitting the role provided we can match people to the hours we need. We are also considering opening for more hours to provide a better service.
