Job description

Global Health Research Programme Manager

The National Institute for Health and Care Research is seeking to appoint a Research Programme Manager to join our Global Heath Team in Twickenham. In this role you will be responsible for directing Department of Health fund research programmes benefiting people’s health, in low and middle-income countries across the globe.

We are interested in speaking to professionals who can support the full end-to-end process of research management, from launching new calls for applications through to the active monitoring of funded projects and who are able to work collaboratively with other team members.

 Key Accountabilities:

  • Supporting all aspects of research funding
  • Preparing contracts for projects recommended for funding
  • Managing a portfolio of funded projects
  • Helping to develop and deliver diverse learning and support activities
  • Evaluate outputs, outcomes of projects and programmes
  • Assisting in the preparation of regular and ad hoc programme reports
  • Identifying enhancements to working practices

Experience required


  • Experience of working in research and/or fund management organisation
  • Experience of liaising with senior individuals in a variety of organisations


  • Experience of managing projects and programmes
  • Experience of managing ODA-funded research projects
  • Expertise in health-related research or research funding support
  • Knowledge and experience of supporting research
  • A track record of successful management and delivery of projects
  • Experienced in community /public engagement and involvement
  • Fluent in an additional language such as French, Spanish or Portuguese  
  • The ability to travel to low-and middle-income countries when needed

Education and technical skills:


  • A biomedical, health or social sciences degree
  • A postgraduate qualification in biomedical, health or social sciences
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, in particular Excel and Word

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Cultural awareness/sensitivity

Role Details & Benefits 
Salary: £36,500 - £38,500 depending on experience
Wide range of core benefits
Hours: 0900 to 1730 Mon to Fri 
Location: Twickenham / Hybrid Remote
