Job description

Lingen Davies Cancer Fund exists to make a positive difference to lives affected by cancer in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, and Mid Wales. Our charity was launched in 1979 as the Cobalt Appeal; an appeal that raised funds to bring cancer services to Shropshire for the very first time. Since then, we have raised an estimated £20 million, in today’s money, to support local services, and over 85,000 people have benefitted from projects we have supported. Our work is focussed in three key areas: cancer prevention and early diagnosis, excellent treatment delivered locally, and living well with and beyond cancer.

We celebrated our 40th Anniversary in 2019, and as we look to the future we have big ambitions. Rates of cancer diagnoses are increasing, but treatments continue to evolve and improve, meaning more people survive their experience of cancer. We want to make sure that everyone with cancer in our community has access to the best possible services and support.

To support our ambitions, we want to significantly increase and diversify our income, so we are seeking an exceptional Development Manager to join our small but highly effective staff team and lead on our income generation work. We are exceptionally lucky to have a strong base of support in our community, and we want to increase the reach of this throughout our community.

Alongside community fundraising, we are keen to develop new income streams, including trusts and foundations, corporate supporters, major donors and legacies.

Our new Development Manager will be an enthusiastic fundraiser, with experience of developing new income generation initiatives and thinking strategically. They will be adaptable, friendly and creative, with a genuine interest in supporting people with cancer in our community. They will be collaborative and appreciative of the charity’s history and values as they embrace and develop new projects.

The Development Manager will form part of the charity’s management team, supporting the wider organisation while focussing on achieving challenging income targets and providing line management to a Fundraiser.

This role is for two years in the first instance, extendable subject to income targets being reached.
