Our charity is in an exciting period of growth as we embarking on a new contract with the local authority and our partners within the COPSINS consortium to deliver Ageing Well Southwark, support for elders and carers. This will see us offer a range of on-site service provision to older people in Southwark. Our work has been significantly impacted by the pandemic but we have moved swiftly to adapt our service provision and to maintain contact with our service users.
Prior to lockdown, we ran 25 groups for older people which included social, exercise and activity groups. All groups are held in local venues that are provided free of cost. Transport to groups is provided by our volunteer drivers or via a minibus service for those who are unable to travel independently. In response to the pandemic, we have adapted as many of our existing groups as possible to offer online sessions or telephone calls from our specialist tutors or volunteers. We have also just launched our first socially distanced group within one of the residential care settings where it ran previously.
Our groups provide service users with peer and social contact and, prior to lockdown, offered the chance for service users to get out of the house and connect with other people. Adapting our groups to the current situation was a huge undertaking for the team. We are now looking at further adaptations as we adjust to social distancing and seek to further develop the digital connectivity of our service users. The Groups Coordinator has a key role to play in the next phase of our groups offer. We need a highly motivated, organised and technologically aware individual to help us navigate through this complicated period of maintaining and developing our groups offer.
