Food Security Officer in the LBTH Tackling Poverty Team
Grade I – Salary: £37,491-£40,632
London Borough of Tower Hamlets has invested extensively in its Tackling Poverty Programme, aimed at tackling inequality and building a strong, inclusive and fair borough. As part of this, both before and during the pandemic the Tackling Poverty Team has been delivering a wide range of food poverty work.
This has included provision of food to children across the school holidays. These are busy, large scale projects; at Easter we distributed 16,000 meals, and the summer programme had over 35,000 attendances across more than 45 sites, with a mix of grant-funded clubs and food collection sites for families. Over Christmas we distributed nearly 20,000 vouchers for children entitled to free school meals and we will be doing the same for February half term.
This year we will be trying to provide something across all school holidays. To help us with this we are looking to recruit to the post of Food Security Officer.
The successful applicant will be involved in a diverse range of different food projects, including delivering the Holiday Activities and Food programme for children from low-income families in school holidays, providing pandemic support for those suffering from food poverty, and developing a network of food pantries.
This is an excellent and rewarding opportunity for the right person to make a real and immediate difference to some of our most vulnerable families.
The role will be a fixed term contract ending 31st March 2022. We are making this opportunity available as a secondment or as a fixed term contract.
The deadline for applications is 7th March 2021, and successful candidates will be interviewed on 15th or 16th March 2021 via MS Teams.
