The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is currently experiencing the world’s second-largest ever recorded Ebola outbreak in North Kivu and Ituri Provinces. In response to the urgent public health need raised by the epidemic, a global consortium is supporting the Government of the DRC to introduce a second investigational Ebola vaccine as part of ongoing efforts to contain the outbreak in eastern DRC. The large-scale clinical trial is designed to help prevent the spread of the epidemic beyond the currently affected areas in eastern DRC, and if possible, gather crucial information about the effectiveness of the vaccine to be better prepared to fight Ebola in the future.
We are seeking to appoint a dynamic and highly organized individual to serve as Operations Manager for the study. The role holder will lead, coordinate, manage and supervise the logistics and general administrative support to the study, ensuring the effective running of study offices and other premises in DRC. They will provide day-to-day advice, guidance and support to study staff and partners in-country, assist in-country partners to establish and keep under review fit-for-purpose administrative systems.
The successful candidate will provide effective leadership in a multi-disciplinary team incorporating administration, human resources, procurement, facilities management, and information & communication technology. The role-holder will require strong organisational skills with proven ability to work effectively within a team, assess priorities and manage workload with minimum supervision. Previous experience of, and willingness to work in, a low-resource setting in a multicultural environment is essential. Excellent written and oral communication skills in French and English, are required.
This dynamic full-time post based in Goma, Democratic Republic of the Congo, offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a study designed to help prevent the spread of the current Ebola epidemic and to be better prepared to fight Ebola in the future. The post is full time and fixed-term until the 31st of October 2021. The salary will be on the Professional salary scale Grade 6 in the range £40,011 - £45,437 per annum.The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. ?Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Director’s Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available.
