Job description

The Office of the Executive Director exists to ensure the proper and ethical governance of MSF-UK and Ireland (MSF-UK/IE) in order to enable and support the organisation to deliver its charitable objectives and assure a section and branch office that is fit for the challenges of the future.

Collectively, it is responsible for strategy and accountability; governance; compliance and risk management; ensuring effective leadership and management; change and innovation; relationships with the Operational Centre Amsterdam partnership and wider MSF movement; and the overall health of MSF-UK/IE.

The office of the Executive Director is comprised of the Head of the Executive Office and Company Secretary, Legal Counsel, Regulatory Policy and Risk Manager, Policy and Planning Coordinator, Safeguarding Lead, Association Board Coordinator and the Executive Assistant to the Executive Director.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the growing Safeguarding Team at MSF UK. The Safeguarding Officer will provide support to the Safeguarding Lead to develop MSF UK’s safeguarding practice and implement MSF UKs strategy for embedding safeguarding in its work. The successful candidate should be comfortable working independently and forming judgements in the complex operating environment presented by MSF UK’s work and able to provide technical guidance to staff seeking support for, what can be, sensitive issues.

This is an opportunity to take on a challenging and exciting role, working on safeguarding primarily focused on the UK but with the opportunity to develop international experience through working with MSF UKs operational partners across our movement and support ongoing collaboration with sector-wide initiatives. This is a developing area of work for MSF so the position comes with a significant opportunity for the successful candidate to undertake considerable professional development, particularly in delivering safeguarding initiatives in an international development setting, as the role would suit someone looking to move in to this area as a next step.

  • Experience in designing and delivering training or workshops.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills in order to deal tactfully and sensitively with a wide range of people in a large organisation, often at a distance.

  • Highly organised and able to work to deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently to balance a range of priorities and maintain focus.
